In high school, there was a Swedish exchange student. I think her nickname was Covfefe.

It was either Sweden or Swaziland. Same thing.

I just don't understand this fear of Muslim immigrants. We've had little issue thus far, is Dearborn burning to the ground yet? I mean we do have over 3 million Muslims in the US currently and we are just fine. There is always a risk of letting someone into the country that will end up harming us. However, the only way we eliminate that risk is become a hermit country. I hope we are not advocating that. Immigrants have always been screened, quite extensively. It just seems that we are letting our fears get the better of us. Also, the troubles some European countries are having cannot be fairly used as a future predictor for us, different social norms/groups, laws, and histories. Too many factors to make a fair comparison. We are who we are because of immigrants...

What differences do you see between us and the European Socialist Democracies? I agree that we are who we are because of immigrants but in this case that may be shortsighted.

Somehow, I seriously doubt that Jefferson ever opened the floodgates to people from the Barbary Coast, home of the original terrorists and now Libya.
Strange how some things never change.
Were they banned? Was there a mass exodus from there to the US that would have required the "floodgates" to be opened? Or are you just assuming what Jefferson would or would not have done? We welcome with open arms people from other areas that were devastated by war, natural disasters, or politics. Irish, Cubans, Africans, Burmese (huge population recently moving into the south side of Indy), etc. What's the difference? Oh I know, they were Christian, not Muslim.

So what was the US legitimation of slavery and extortion at the time?

Oh, and the actual treaty with Tripoli repudiated any religious connotation to the battles. Rather, it was economic.

In order to birth jazz, blues, and rock and roll we had to sell our soul to King Cotton....After we retook our Solutrean won New World land back from the invaders from across the Bering land bridge of course....

Took nigh on 500 years but we pulled it off....To live long enough for the Solutrean Hypothesis to become widely accepted has been great...

"So what did you all do to MY people????? It seems every set of bones we find has some serious injuries....Did you all just kill us off and steal OUR land...."

I think I am going to open a casino...That'll show 'em...:)

Somehow I doubt you take such a lax and frankly, naïve, view of your law enforcement duties. We are who we are not because of unfettered and unassimilated immigrants as is the current suicidal fad but because for much of our history immigration has been tightly controlled and assimilation strongly enforced. We certainly did not allow unrestricted immigration from Germany, Italy, or Japan during WWII nor from the USSR during the Cold War. We did not foolishly encourage potential harm simply because none of those who previously immigrated had yet caused harm. Those that did immigrate were expected to learn our language and follow our laws not cling to their own language and only follow those laws that benefitted them.

Using your own logic, Why do you carry a gun? I don't understand the fear of other people. No one has killed you yet. You've been alive and on the job a long time and you are just fine so far. There is always a risk but the only way to reduce the risk is to become a paranoid with a gun. The assumption that because something hasn't happened yet means it will never happen is faulty as you well know when it comes to carrying a gun.

However, 99% of the people I deal with are NOT criminals.

I'm a beat car for East District (for the last 15 years). I'm currently looking for an inside assignment though, as I am totally burnt out.

    Indianapolis East District beat car.
99% of interactions are with non-criminals.

Little issue thus far ? NY , Boston , San Bernardino , Ft. Hood , Oklahoma AND BROWNSBURG , INDIANA just off the top of my head . How many " little issues " till they become a problem for you ?

Letting our fears get the best of us ? Gee I wonder why ? I mean , it's not like the fine folks of the religion of peace are giving us a reason to fear their non assimilating presence .

Too many factors you say ? Well let's just narrow that down to the least common denominator , care to guess what that would be ?

If none of this is resonating with you , I'd say the "religion of peace " hasn't " spread their message close enough to you yet .

He clearly said "immigrant muslims," of the the instances you cited, how many are immigrants, and how many are American born? Of my head, I see a couple that didn't involve immigrants.

OMG! He tweeted #covfefe! It's a alt right curse on humanity! We'll all be turned into frogs! Does this thing turn up to 12?

    :runaway:

Actually, when I first saw mention of it, I thought the SS might have given him a new callsign and he accidently tweeted it
