That is very irritating, but all they care about is that they made it through the light. Very inconsiderate.

    IKR!!!

Seriously people, check you mirror, think about how long you had to wait at the light, and be considerate and get through quickly so others can as well.

35k to 40k miles a year, for the past 13 years. I know people who have their eyes on the phone are dangerous, no argument there. From my experience, people are just as likely to cause an accident driving like an impatient wiener as they are using a phone. Some people just cannot use good judgment and stop doing stupid things, phones or not.

Agreed. The road is full of morons/idiots and the inconsiderate. Phones are fairly new to this mix.

In my mind the 1st 3 cars have an obligation to move when the light turns. Not a drag race start but get moving and let us get to the next light so we can wait again...:):

Not just lights, lots of other places where people are inconsiderate as well. My pet peeve is people who turn out of a side street or driveway in front of you and don't speed up. Bonus points if the road behind you is completely clear... :xmad:

I always keep 1/2 to 1 car space between me and another vehicle while stopped in traffic. This is a technique from riding MC's as it gives me room to escape and not rearend the car in front of me in case I get hit.

I was rear ended a few days ago. I saw her approaching and knew she was going to stop in time. The impact pushed my car 10 feet forward. Just before the impact I saw her on her phone. She told me and the police she wasn't on her phone. Joke is on her, my insurance company has already requested her cell phone records.

Don't know if they will get them but it is nice to know my insurance company does this.

What difference does it make if she was on the phone? She hit you, so she is at fault.

I'd say it was the inconsiderate passive aggressive jerks on the road that think that whatever speed they are driving is as fast as anyone needs to drive. They plant themselves in the left lane and won't move, thus frustrating drivers that want to go faster than they are. Then if someone tries to pass them on the right, they will speed up to try to stop that person from getting around them.

How can they prove you were on the phone and not singing along with the radio , aside from pulling your phone records?

Multiple times every day. Some do not even slow down for the stop. Pull right through and not look. Road clear behind me.
I must be an idiot magnet. :dunno:

Much the same experiences here. These idiots are far more dangerous then speeders and I believe national statistics prove this out.
And many are on the phone. Speed up and slow down for miles while running next to a big truck.

We have 2 vehicles. The newer has the blue tooth which my phone and my wives phone is paired to. I like it, and consider myself a driver that can hold conversation and drive at the same time. Now our older car does not have this. If calls come in I wait till I get where I am going to see who called. And do not place calls while I am driving unless it's an absolute emergency.

How about.....Criminalize and prosecute actions responsible for victims. No victim, no crime.

You T-bone someone and kill them because you were distracted.....You should be punished accordingly. And it should be a DAMN HARSH penalty. Harsh enough that people just flat out won't risk texting and driving. The REAL problem here is that the punishment is not currently harsh enough to deter people.

It should not be the .gov's job to babysit adults and to police people's use of their phones.

In all of this I agree but I see so little "Adulting" on the roads these days. Just a lot of self centered selfish people old enough to be an adult but falling short on many levels.

If you read some studies, being distracted is MUCH worse than being slightly over the DUI limit. I'm not talking about falling over drunk, but being slightly inebriated.

    Saw a great bumper sticker:
Don't drive drunk. You'll get hit by someone texting and end up in jail.

Being distracted is near the same as being intoxicated. It not only removes any possibility of other reasons for hitting him it will step up liability's.

Yup. Can't argue there. But make the penalty harsh enough.....and the grown up children will figure out they better not text and drive after someone they know gets locked up for 20 years for killing someone while texting and driving.
