Holy Constantinople, Batman! This thing is proposed for 5 mins away from me!
There's an online petition circulating in opposition to it ostensibly to preserve a "residential" parcel. The close of the petition is, "Let's preserve this quiet and uniquely residential pocket of Carmel!"
The parcel is a beautiful agricultural/residential 9.75 acres on the west side of Carmel. It abuts a subdivision on 1.5 sides. Has a little pond on in it and everything. Really nice parcel (except that it abuts a subdivision). There's a larger parcel just to the north that is still rural. (It'll be interesting when that owner cashes in.)
Anyway, I don't recall a petition in opposition when the Coptic Orthodox church went in a couple miles south, right across from the school campus. Or when the Greek Orthodox church went in a few further miles south. Both of those were also adjacent to residential areas.
