I know virtually everyone views Sessions through the prism of his Russia recusal, but as someone who works in law enofrcement, I'll say that his departure is a huge loss. I can't think of anyone in the Administration who waso aredently pro-LEO and he did a lot to reverse the Holder-era destruction of the department's relationship with police nationwide beginning with Ferguson. Just a few months ago, he was here in Indy offering a full-throated endorsement of the good work police do every day. Believe me, after the last administration, and its cops-are-racists/be-nice-to-criminals theme, it was hugely refreshing.
On the recusal, I truly believe that Sessions--who is honest and honorable to a fault--did not at the time understand the magnitude of his recusal. That by handing the reins to Rosenstein, who then handed the reins to Mueller (a Comey pal and anti-Trumper), things would spiral so out of control and lead to the mess we have now. Naive? Maybe, but I won't say a bad word about the man.
