I know virtually everyone views Sessions through the prism of his Russia recusal, but as someone who works in law enofrcement, I'll say that his departure is a huge loss. I can't think of anyone in the Administration who waso aredently pro-LEO and he did a lot to reverse the Holder-era destruction of the department's relationship with police nationwide beginning with Ferguson. Just a few months ago, he was here in Indy offering a full-throated endorsement of the good work police do every day. Believe me, after the last administration, and its cops-are-racists/be-nice-to-criminals theme, it was hugely refreshing.

On the recusal, I truly believe that Sessions--who is honest and honorable to a fault--did not at the time understand the magnitude of his recusal. That by handing the reins to Rosenstein, who then handed the reins to Mueller (a Comey pal and anti-Trumper), things would spiral so out of control and lead to the mess we have now. Naive? Maybe, but I won't say a bad word about the man.

I am sure he is a very nice man; probably too nice. I think he is like a minnow in an ocean of sharks, and at this time we need someone a bit more aggressive while maintaining integrity.

From a policy and justice perspective, the actual job, you are correct. There hasn't been a better AG than Sessions, IMO.

But from a politics perspective, he was weak and played the game by the Democrats' crazy, self-serving rules. When the Dems demanded he recuse himself, his answer should have been, "After the **** Holder pulled and you were silent? Go **** yourself." Or words to that effect, but in a more scholarly and distinguished way yet conveying exactly the same message. :)

I agree he’s a good man. But to be in Washington as long as he as, and having been denied a judiciary position by the Dems, to not see this coming is beyond naive. Not sure what it is, but hugely disappointing

The timing of his recusal was certainly 'interesting'. Not the day before, but the day after his swearin in, when Trump couldn't change his mind. He really wanted this job!
