Now that you mention that, I guess I hadn't noticed how they seem to have left the field. I wonder if they'll be back, since the push is apparently on to reduce the BAC/ACE to 0.05%?

They are GMADD now. Just an aging thing.

Have you ever BaC’d yourself? I should not be driving at 0.07. I support 0.05. But I think you should be able to drink a beer while you drive if you are under the limit.

The thing is a lot of drunk drivers are chronic alcoholics who drive at 0.25 and you can’t tell because they do it just fine and don’t get pulled over. Changing the limit for them won’t Matter at all. It’ll catch the docs, accountants, and soccer moms who met friends after work and headed home when they should have waited another hour because they aren’t used to 0.08

What of the people who are fine at 0.2 but shake like mad at 0.0? They shouldn’t drive if SOBER

    Just my opinion.

He has a valid point this is my 5th post. But unfortunately for those who cant handle an intelligent discussion I wont be going anywhere. A low post count doesnt mean I'm simply a troll. It just means I arrived late to the party or just simple havent felt the need to post on a topic yet.

I was out of line, sir, and I apologise. Welcome to INGO.

    Appology accepted.
Didnt mean to sound offensive with the "intellegent discussion" comment. Just a pet peeve of mine when a post count is assumed as lack of honest interest in the topic.

So get this I am about 2,000 miles into a normal 3,000 mile week.

I have 3 Weigh Stations each way on my route that’s alot of fun filled chances to meet law enforcement officers. So far this week I have went into 3 and have only had to weigh at one so far.
So at the “checkpoints” the DOT can and will do the following
    1. Check the weight of vehicle
    2. Inspect Vehicle
    3. Search Vechicle (a DOT inspector is required to search vehicle if they believe something is out of order)
    4. Inspect Driver ( a warrant check included for free often you will see drivers in cuffs at the scale house)

So some will say you are in Commercial Transportation that’s what you get!
I pose that you profession does not suspend you rights as a Citizen!

DUI/OWI checkpoints are rare in the civilian world I think I may have went though maybe two since 1984.
Some need to ease up on the “oppression” they feel going though a checkpoint. If that’s all you have to worry about you are doing good IMO!

Impaired driving is a serious issue but I firmly believe distracted driving is a much larger issue. Drivers are doing things never meant to be done while driving. Distracted driving I would assume would be difficult to prove in court a drunk or high person in comparison is easy to determine?

BTW a BAC Of .19 would explain why Marion County is a Democrat stronghold!

Is there a reported average for drunk drivers involved in accidents? On scene BaC not blood draw an hour later in hospital.

There is no such thing as on-scene BAC. Certified tests take place at a hospital or police station. People metabolize ETOH at a rate of .0145 per hour so even an hour or two after a crash, a BAC doesn’t change much.

Maybe it being a Democrat stronghold is THE CAUSE of conservatives resorting to the Wild Turkey! :patriot:

I do agree that texting, etc ... is becoming a huge danger on our roads. Had a girl bump into my rear bumper in stop-n-go traffic. I could see she was texting in my rear view mirror. She actually got out of her car and started walking up to my car to apologize to me, in the middle of traffic. I waved her off and shouted 'get back in your car and get off the damn phone', as traffic started moving again. SMH

I have 2 beers most days on my way home from work- there is no drunk driving involved, it's none of the governments damn business. But, it challenges the PC dogma to which we all must bow. So, traps must be set.

DUI - DRIVING Under the Influence.

    Not Drunk Under the Influence.
The breathalyzer is just a tool for the prosecution to use. Blowing under the limit doesn't mean you didn't drink and drive.

    Careful out there.

    Huh?

Not sure how alcohol and PC / social justice is related, but whatever.

And if you drank alcohol, and then continued on your way home, you were driving drunk. Legally, but still intoxicated. Buzzed driving is drunk driving. ;)

And this .19% average... that's the mean average? What's the standard deviation? Sounds like people at the .08% - .10% aren't the one's causing problems.

I hate, HATE, the "buzzed driving is drunk driving" tag line. It's poorly created and average folks don't understand the point of it. The intent of that line is to say that if you feel buzzed, you are likely over the limit, NOT that you can only have a drink or two and be in the wrong. In common speech, "buzzed" is normally used to say that you can kind of feel the alcohol kicking in but you know you're far from intoxicated. Like I said, it's a poor tag line.

I have not done the math on what the average BAC is for folks involved in crashes who end up arrested for OVWI. Too difficult to compile that stat for me.
