    In regards to the OP,
Cash is for fools and optimists.
Plastic is just cash for the impatient.
Time and effort are the only universal currency,
well... There might be one more but this is a family forum. Besides, I think that qualifies as effort.

If you have skills why would you be found with no gear? :dunno:

If you have a ton of gold, why would you have no bullets? Lol
I have a mediocre skill level, better than most, less than serious survivalist.
I have survival gear, mostly leftovers from the corp, but food and supplies is nonexistent.
So I would fall into the skills and no gear category. :dunno:

In regular life I have found that lots of problems can be solved with a $50 bill. Sure, sometimes you might pay a little too much for something because you might not get change. I always have cash available, and the amount depends on where I am. My EDC in my wallet is always a couple of fifties.

During the first few days of a SHTF event the sheep will still find great value in cash and some people’s greed will make it an effective way to get things. Particularly if the electronic cashless credit card system is down or unavailable to the person who has what you need. With cash you’ll be able to buy food, gas, get a ride, shelter, etc. Rather than thinking nationwide EMP, think events like Katrina or even a blizzard or localized power outage.

Cash just saved my butt. Running low on fuel in chiraq. Paid a ghetto bum a buck to leave me alone/ not stab me. Then had to use cash to fill up since the credit card machines were down at the pump.

Prior proper planning prevents **** poor performance. You should have not been in the situation of needing gas in Chiraq.

True, I'm usually on top of it, but it only takes once. I probably could've made it home, but :dunno: I wish I was perfect.

That's why I usually fill up when I get to half. Usually not always though..

    I usually go about 3/8s.
In the winter, then above 1/2.

But I've seen accidents close the road in winter, for a long time. People run their cars because it's cold, and because people are idiots and don't wear winter clothes in the winter.
Then we have to push that car off the road.

    .
Cash is not worth anything in a bad situation.

Take a look only as far as the Confederacy for an adequate example of why that is true, even in this country...which was nearly two.

I’m bad about carrying cash as my wife takes it from me whenever I have any.

I have some stashed in my bag for emergencies but nothing usually in my wallet

With the advent of ApplePay/Google/Samsung it even less needed in daily life

I have to get better about keeping a few bucks on me, especially for tips and the like
