"Fired Parkland BSO deputy given job back with full back pay, union says

The Broward Sheriff’s Office sergeant who was the first supervisor to respond to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and lost his job after it was found he hid behind his car as the first shots rang out, will be reinstated, awarded full back pay and get back his seniority, the BSO Deputies Association said Wednesday.

Sgt. Brian Miller was one of the four deputies who were terminated because of a “neglect of duty” in the Feb. 14, 2018, Parkland shooting, which killed 17 students and faculty members and injured another 17."

    Well that just tears it.

It doesn't surprise me. A union contract is just that, a contract. I would imagine that the Broward lawyers probably told the government that this could happen if the union had the chutzpah to push it and they obviously did. It would all depend on what it says in that contract constitutes valid termination under the contract.

Yes possibly but some things can not be covered on or in a legal document.

I have to be honest in saying if my child was in that building and lived or died that man would never want to see me under "ANY" conditions. Regardless.
Some things are not to be overlooked and this is one of those things. Put the badge on, draw the paycheck, and step the **** up when the time comes. Period.

    Good God...

When I think about the guys I worked with back in the day and then the ones I supervised this makes me sick. My problem commanding cops was never worrying about them hiding behind their cars. It was holding them back so that they wouldn't rush into something without thinking it through first.

If a shift of cops I commanded had responded to this caper, not only would they have gone in and killed the little bastard, they'd have ripped his head off and kicked it around the gym.

    Things sure have changed.

Bingo. The man is an express coward of the lowest kind. He does not deserve the badge or the respect it is suppose to bring. Complete sissy. As was the rest who responded and cowardly hid. My blood boils at what we have devolved into with PC being the rule of the day.

**** PC and anyone that espouses it.

The vast majority do. But it's not something that can be forced.

And as you see in the broward coward case, the idea is alive and well.

Yes I am blessed to know several LEO through my life that you were a fool to **** with. I respect these men deeply. Many I have called friends. Some I was on the receiving end of ****ing with them and learned something from that experience. Even those men I respect.

Nothing good about the outcome, possibly police union contracts will renegotiated in the future. Other than exploiting the whole incident for gun control purposes leadership is unconcerned.

I know emotions run high over this subject.

I had a friend knew him for years we were stationed together twice, good solid guy IMO. In March 2003 we were both Platoon Sergeants in the same Company. One of his vehicles got hit as a PSG your job is beans and bullets including cas evac he froze and panicked. He didn’t go in after his men unforgivable breach of trust.

Never would have thought he would have froze he was relieved and all that stuff.

I agree no idea how someone would be reinstated with back pay doesn’t pass the logic test.

I was attempting to illustrate that training and a uniform doesn’t always mean that person is gonna fight!

Did not mean to PO the CM!

Oh brother you are not the source of this attitude. Anything but. You just verified what I was always thinking. How a grown ass man could hide like a 5 year old girl and let kids get slaughtered was just beyond me until you clarified who and what this turd really is. Now, those other douche bags, what's up there. I can not honestly say I would stand down regardless.
