Loaded up the 1873 tonight. 14 plus one for the rifle length 32-20. Nothing sounds like an 1873 with that brass lifter. Love it.

Not quite but the Swiss Vetterli sounds pretty similar since they borrowed the lifter design from the 1873. The big difference is that the Vetterli is a bolt action which sounds a bit different than the lever operation.

The mixture of brass and steel sounds pretty sweet.

If you get a chance post a pic of this Swiss rifle. I’d love to see it.

Here's a link with photos and info on the various Vetterli models.

The action is rather clunky, the bolt travel is longer than necessary and you have to work it with authority, and the rifle is aesthetically challenged but interesting nonetheless. You can usually find several on Gunbroker, typically for around $400, and no FFL is required since they are antiques. Since they are all rimfires, conversion (reasonably easy) is required if you want to shoot them. Cases can be fabricated from 8mm Lebel brass and ballistically the cartridge is similar to a .44 mag.

You have a 'bucket pail'. Do you think they handle any better than the 'corn cob'?
I prefer the looks of the corn cob pumps better, but the nickel, “expert model”, is in much better shape than my standard. It has a really nice bore, and is a great shooter. It’s younger, and hasn’t had as hard of a life.

When I was re-doing mine I passed on several bucket handles until I found the corn cob I wanted. It was just what I was familiar with and the look I wanted.

I knew it was an 'up-grade' but I never got use to them and I never used one. Only now did I have a chance to ask if it was different other than looks. Thanks.

Son and I ran a couple boxes of sub sonic shells through both of them yesterday. They are both a joy to shoot, but his nickel one is just a much tighter, more accurate gun.

To me, the corn cob just looks “right” on the Winchester. The bucket handles belong on the Colts. :D

And now, a Colt Lightning small frame from 1900.

Got this tonight, but it has a feeding issue that will have to be addressed.

Well, I am liquidating my '73. It is a 32-20 and I will find it a new home. That is the bad news.

On the other hand I am picking up a REAL nice Winchester 07. One comes, one goes. That seems to be the way it is when you reach saturation...

There’s always room for just one more. :D
