All of these "smart informed people" haven't ever heard of estimated taxes...

    Weird.

I'm not that smart and I understand them. I have overestimated my taxes for the past 2 years (not intentionally) and applied the overage to the next year's taxes.

The first year was due to the "Trump tax cuts" which produced an unexpected "windfall" and the next year was trying to hone in on the proper estimates, so it was a lot less, but still overpaid.

Yeah my accountant (ex-accountant) screwed up and I got a $20,000 tax refund from last year. I normally take any refund and apply it to next year's taxes. I did keep this one. I would prefer to keep it to as close to $0 as possible. I don't even mind owing the IRS money, other than the fact I think they take way too much. I still think I can earn more interest on my money than they will holding on to it for me :/

If Trump loses, it's because most voters are ignorant and only read the headlines. Shoot, Matt Drudge has become a Never Trumper over the last couple years. He's doing everything he can to "influence" the election.

When did influencing people become evil, by the way? Or is it only wrong when certain people do it?

Serious question (sorry if this has been addressed): Has the accounting firm's contact information been released? Are they accepting new clients?

(And before anyone makes assumptions, no I don't care to live in that kind of world. I'd rather not be paying a toll every mile or end up disconnected because my house doesn't pass by any logistical necessities. Just making the point.)

Loved that, but wow... he should consider switching to decaf. Or lay off the energy drinks or cocaine. :):
Yeah he does get a wee bit wound up. Makes alot of good points though if you can keep up with the frenetic pace.

The NYT article claims that Trump distributed losses across multiple years to reduce his tax burden. Of course that’s not how they worded it. But then when you say it my way it doesn’t sound like he’s an evil meany.

So you don't want to pay taxes to pay for essential services...but you don't want to live in a world with out essential services.... Have you been drinking or what?

Hough was correct. The NYT article said that while Trump was disputing taxes one year, he still made his payments of the estimated taxes. By the time he filed, he owed much less than what he paid in, so he applied the several million dollars in overpayments over subsequent years. Also there was the thing where he could take a loss on stuff that Pelosi’s congress passed as relief in 2008, which also allowed him to split over multiple years.

Another puzzling thing is the wording announcing the leak. They didn’t say they had his tax returns. They said they had his tax return information. Later in the article they referred to it as tax return data, not tax returns. Makes me wonder exactly what they have.
