Strong argument that the Charlie Hebdo attack was the beginning of modern wokeism.

Wokism has roots to long before the terms first use in the 60s. (that's where I got the part of my sig line, "if you're woke you dig it") Its first use wasn't exactly referring to being acutely aware of social justice issues. But people were "woke" before "woke" came to mean that.

Critical social justice was born from critical race theory, postmodernism, cultural marxism. It lived mainly in humanities academia, incubating for decades. It didn't really start hitting main stream until 2014/gamergate time period. And that particular manifestation was primarily feminist. So it predates Charlie Hebdo. But Charlie Hebdo was certainly an early manifestation in the non-academics world.

Yeah that's all I meant by "modern". Outlets like the NYT handwaving vicious terrorism because they were asking for it. Gamergate was a dry run, for sure, but mostly about a handful of people spinning up grievance based careers.

I honestly want to know what changed between say 2010 and 2015 where we went from it being the realm of a handful of fringy academics to getting very normal people fired from very normal jobs. Something changed, but I don't know what. It didn't work in the 90s, despite their best efforts. Why now?

The change was finally having a friendly administration. Obama was a trained Marxist under the Saul Alinsky lineage, wearing suits instead of radical clothing to assuage the normie fears that would normally happen if he sported traditionally radical looks. That’s the reason his Columbia College transcripts are under such tight lock and key, they barely acknowledge him (as an alum this is very noticeable to me). The radicals at colleges, first in the faculty and then in the student ranks, could take off amy pretense of reasonableness since they believed they had won and would not be challenged.

It's a little known fact that Chewbacca was orginally going to be from the race of Wokies but a last minute script changed it up.

Are any of you guys following the story of the Clinton emails released that show how the Obama-Biden administration and Sect. State Clinton were conspiring to destabilize ME countries to install the Moslem Brotherhood into political power, working with Al-Jazirah, trying to get people in the ME to finance a Moslem Brotherhood friendly network? The emails are apparently being released to the ME by somebody and are stirring things up over there.
    Interesting times indeed.

That's awful Sylvain. With all that's been going on over here (rioting, looting, general unrest and the election), Islamic terrorism has pretty much faded away from our news cycle. Sadly it hasn't stopped. :(

Heard this today; and in Nice no less. Is the incident in Avignon connected, or similar (i.e. Muslim attacker)?

My spirit is lifted that French people are standing up to this; Stand firm, mes amies.

OTOH, to hear Erdoğan call for a boycott of French goods puts Turkey on my **** list. Ataturk must be spinning...

    Awful.

It later emerged that a witness had managed to raise the alarm with a special protection system set up by the city.
    Interesting.

Elderly people were killed. Easy victims. Perhaps because only elderly people go to church to pray in the middle of the week/middle of the day?

I note the terrorist was once again stopped from killing more people by guys with guns (as was the guy in Avignon), but tant pis for the initial wave of victims.

"Last year, a student told me that it was completely legitimate to kill someone who failed to show respect to the Prophet [Muhammad]," Fathia Agad-Boudjhalat, a history teacher, told French radio. "It comes from what they hear in their families."

It’s only going to get worse over there.
There is a BIG problem, and it’s NOT France’s freedoms.

Stabbed? I heard one was beheaded.

According to the linked article, someone was "nearly beheaded" in the church, a man had his throat cut (not clear if same person), a woman died in the church, and another woman who was stabbed several times fled to a nearby cafe but died later. Total of three innocents killed, plus the terrorist.

But, it's a good thing he's only justifying murder, and not sharing the Hunter Biden story. Then Twitter might have to take action.
