The trial of the 2015 terrorist attack will start this week.
Ballsy move from all the journalists who survived the 2015 attack and who all received death threats ever since.
Strong argument that the Charlie Hebdo attack was the beginning of modern wokeism.
Wokism has roots to long before the terms first use in the 60s. (that's where I got the part of my sig line, "if you're woke you dig it") Its first use wasn't exactly referring to being acutely aware of social justice issues. But people were "woke" before "woke" came to mean that.
Critical social justice was born from critical race theory, postmodernism, cultural marxism. It lived mainly in humanities academia, incubating for decades. It didn't really start hitting main stream until 2014/gamergate time period. And that particular manifestation was primarily feminist. So it predates Charlie Hebdo. But Charlie Hebdo was certainly an early manifestation in the non-academics world.
Yeah that's all I meant by "modern". Outlets like the NYT handwaving vicious terrorism because they were asking for it. Gamergate was a dry run, for sure, but mostly about a handful of people spinning up grievance based careers.
I honestly want to know what changed between say 2010 and 2015 where we went from it being the realm of a handful of fringy academics to getting very normal people fired from very normal jobs. Something changed, but I don't know what. It didn't work in the 90s, despite their best efforts. Why now?
Another attack today 5 years later at the same place.

A source told Le Parisien: "The victim had recently given a lesson to his students on freedom of expression and had shown the caricatures of Muhammad."
Yet another Islamic terrorist attack.

Interesting. It later emerged that a witness had managed to raise the alarm with a special protection system set up by the city.
"Last year, a student told me that it was completely legitimate to kill someone who failed to show respect to the Prophet [Muhammad]," Fathia Agad-Boudjhalat, a history teacher, told French radio. "It comes from what they hear in their families."
Stabbed? I heard one was beheaded.
