Well, look at it like this, Your mad cause you tried to help. But if you didn't, your daughter would be mad at you, which would make mama mad at you.
So what's the best case ? you mad or mama and daughter mad at you?
Around my house, I'm usually the mad one!
    Hope you get out soon!

This bought you out of future problems.

Buy the daughter's family a year's worth of towing service and you have done your part for life. You made the effort and everyone learned.

I had AAA for years, but have moved away from them for their foolish "must stay with vehicle" rule. I use State Farm's service now but maybe there is better?

My SIL got stuck. I decided I'll help him. Now I'm sitting in a ditch wondering if I made the right choice...

I'm stuck in my Jeep wondering exactly how much damage the fence has done to the driver's side.
Ended up in a ditch on the way to work yesterday morning. Some brain donor decided to add an additional left turn lane on my left side. As we turned he started sliding towards me so I did the honorable thing; drove into the gently sloped ditch while the donor motored off into the snow storm. Upon leaving my new private parking spot I forgot to turn on the 4wd and the tail end swung around until a strategically place sign post prevented me from swinging further.

Nothing a new rear passenger door won't take care of on my 17 Sierra. And a new running board. And a little body work on the rocker panel.

Sad part is that I depended on the "Fully Automatic 4wd" to pull me out of the ditch instead of flipping the switch. Upon flipping to 4 Low it idled itself out of the ditch as soon as I let off of the brake.

I hate technology. (A statement almost as ironic as Direct TV telling me that I had to MAIL a billing dispute to them, not email, MAIL. Stamp, envelope, the whole nine yards. She didn't laugh when I asked her if I needed to provide any carbon copies of the paperwork)

Having a truck can be a problem with people asking to use it or it and you both.
Having a 4WD truck adds another level to this. We are missing the lower front valence on mine due to people not paying attention.

I was so confused at first. I read SIL as "sister in law," and was scratching my head when you said him. I had to read further to get clarification.
That's life, Rook. It's going punch you in the face even when you're trying to do the right thing.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's I spent a lot of my winters pulling cars out of the ditch and drifts with my 4x4. When people started suing good Samaritans for damages to their cheaply constructed vehicles, I decided to stop while I was ahead. I will call for professional assistance now if they need me to, or let them get warm in my truck, but I practice risk management nowadays.

My first thought was, someone really believes a modern jeep can pull something out of a ditch? My second was someone believes there is something to hook to on a modern car to pull it out of a ditch with?

Was following a new tricked out jeep this morning he couldn't keep out of my way. Snow and ruts throwing the jeep all over the road while my old Suburban just powered along...

Once I got out of my ditch, My modern Jeep pulled the 2002 Suburban out with minimal effort. Fortunately, the Suburban wasn't near as stuck as the Jeep.

The Suburban slid off just enough that it was sending power to the tires off the road.

The Jeep was a different story. Three foot deep ditch with an old steel farmer's fence directly against the driver's side. I almost had it out unassisted. I backed up into a tree that was just on the other side of the fence and used it to pivot my front end onto the road. Unfortunately, the fence hooked my bumper and swung me further into the ditch.

This was my Daily driver in the early 80's. I got it stuck once deep in the woods and doing dumb :poop: chasing a buddy in his bad ass jeep in the tight stuff where he was easily going and my rig not so much. But the power take off rear winch saved me further embarrassment from him having to pull me out of my idiocy.
We had a ball pulling folks out of drifts etc. Until an issue we had when I was cold/tired up all night plowing and was not getting out to crawl under this cats 2WD pick up and hook him up. The snatch strap was draped on the blade rack so easy enough. Told him to hook it and I would pull him out. I have to say it was a surprise when as I snatched him the bed came half loose and the hook dislodged and came screaming through my windshield.
That was an interesting next 30 minutes.

This thing was a beast. Rolled on 44" MM's
Thats CKW at the wheel. She loved driving it.
