“The American Kennel Club has spoke out against the ordinance, warning that shutting down sales at reputable pet shops leads people to search for animals online — where scams and lack of regulations run rampant.”

And the AKC has been aiding and abetting the breeding of unhealthy canines because of the particular conformation that they require from show dogs. German Shepherds and hip dysplasia are one prominent example

Better sources of information might be people like Best Friends or the ASPCA

I don’t know Best Friends but I despise ASPCA. BTW, that was an article quote.

It is government overreach to do this. Then to just shut down a business is BS. What next, just decide to outlaw engineering?

Part of me likes the idea of people who want a dog/cat for a fur baby having to adopt a shelter animal. The other part of me has no illusions to what will happen down the road with this law.
We had a puppy mill busted right behind my home many years ago.
I’ve always taken pride in my ability to spot issues in my AO… not this time. They literally had cages stuffed in a cellar and crawl space under the house. Went on for over a year without gaining attention.
Then one morning I had a case of insomnia… went out to the patio at 0200 for a smoke.
Saw a floating light… dim and barely noticeable going down the back stairs to the cellar door… initially thought it a burglar. Cellar door opens and I could hear muffled yips.
WTF!!! Never hardly ever saw the people outside and I’d never seen anyone use that door until then.
It was a miracle that they got raided a few days later. :shady:
Heard from a buddy involved in said raid that it was one of the nastiest, disgusting sad sights he ever witnessed in animal rescue.
    Despicable vermin posing as humans.

Not so sure they encourage hip dysplasia directly though as it is common for akc breeders to have ofa certs

BUT the whole show vs working lines of German Shepherds with the sloping back vs straight. Bow that's enough to get me riled.
