    Totally awesome!
I haven't done "only water" for years now.
For spiritual reasons I fast at the beginning of every month for about
    36 – 40-ish hours,
    but I am drinking coffee/tea.
Since most people only do a
    24 hour fast,
I did indulge in broth at the this last month.
once a person fasts over 2–3 days, that's a hole other level of cleansing and healing that goes on inside the body that is priceless!

I drank about 3 liters a day and only added sugar-free electrolyte packs. Once a day I added a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar as well. I was honestly pretty surprised at how not-hungry I felt. The body is an amazing thing.

curious of your age and what your cholesterol and A1c sugar levels are.
Anyone that would do a 5 day water fast I'm sure does a better job of controlling you're eating than I do, ha ha!

    36, 5’10”, 180-ish lbs.

Haven’t had my blood tested for a while so :dunno:

I had been intermittent fasting with a pretty severe calorie deficit every day for the past three months leading up to that so I’m sure that probably helped. 1200-1500 calories a day total. I have a late breakfast around 9:30 or 10 and then dinner at 5 or 5:30 and that’s it for the day.

Whiskey and red meat are your friend.
No carbs in either: would fit into my diet/eating plan of no/low carbs, haha!

I am amazed as I continue to research about different diets/eating choices & the carnivore approach puzzles me most.
Some swear by it & there is research that shows blood sugars/glucose & cholesterol levels going down eating only meat, cheese, butter, whole milk & the like. :dunno:

I wouldn't want to do it as a perpetual lifestyle, but for a month or so to lose weight & bring blood levels down it certainly has an appeal.
Didn't learn that in health class or from my Dr's office, though.
It seems that saturated fat in natural foods is not a direct trigger for dangerous fat levels in the body. :coffee:

Watch out for anything processed & sugar, though, which is the typical American diet.
I find no confusion about a very low carb approach, especially for the diabetic, which is my main priority.

As someone that’s been in fitness since the age of 15 and sports medicine experience, I’m hard to impress when it comes to fitness related topics. I’m by no means an expert, but intermittent fasting just plain works. It taps into the primitive DNA and improves all cause mortality rate. It’s not a super drug, but it’s close to it. If one would look at the modern day average diet under a microscope, one would think the food industry was trying to kill the populous. Intermittent fasting offsets some of those trends. I’m not a doctor and this isn’t medical advice. Just my opinion.

Your words line up with everything I've been reading since January 2023 when I really started tuning in to the research. :coffee:
Your words about the food industry are spot on & are kinder than what many Drs accuse the food industry of.
    Just follow the money! :spend:
They know what they are doing with the foods produced in which the public thinks are good nutrition.
Whereas, if you live long enough, they produce type 2 diabetics, then type 1 if you don't eat differently like I've had to do.
I've told my Dr. that I'll quit eating before I take insulin. :nono:
I can smart off since I'm only a type 2. :blahblah:
Wish I'd known what I do now decades ago. :dunno:

I just love taking control of my eating. I DON'T need to snack. I DON'T need to constantly eat. I train BJJ 6 days a week and it is usually during my stretches of intermittent fasting. I prefer to train on an empty stomach and have grown quite used to it. Lately, my IF stretches are 14-19 hrs.

You training bjj 6 days a week has my up most respect. I did judo+bjj+power lifting in the late 90s early 2000s for about 5 years then got in combatives. At 42 the thought of doing it now haunts me. Props to you for going through the grind.

We don’t need the amount of fuel to function that society programs us to think we need. The mental clarity and lack of sugar/carb crash one gets from intermittent fasting is all the evidence one should need to make a informed decision.

Thank you!!! I've been training BJJ for about 7 years now. I started BJJ when I was 43, I'll be 50 this year. I used to powerlift as well as Oly lift but stopped once I started BJJ. It's the only fitness "routine" I do now. I can't focus my energy on more than one at a time. Training with all these younger people keeps me young.

I have been carnivorish for awhile now, along with IF. I do eggs and cheese. I also do some fresh veggies out of the garden when it's growing season, mostly for the fiber benefits
I have went from almost #230 to around #190 walking around weight.

I did have a bout of diverticulosis so I always try to get some low glycemic fiber. I usually eat once a day, between 12-5. Drink mostly black coffee and plain iced tea.

Beer and sweets and moderation are my weakness.

Protein, protein, protein. And when you think you are stuffed, eat again.
This is the only part I disagree with. It might be useful early on if one is learning how to do intermittent fasting. But do it long enough, and ghrelin and leptin dosing comes back to normal, meaning you can actually listen to their hunger/satiety signaling.

I eat to satiety, but not to the point of being stuffed. If I'm on an OMAD day, I might eat a small amount an hour or so after my meal, if hunger returns - but that's rare. (I typically eat TMAD, every other day - ADF 3x per week.)

If someone is a hard gainer, it’s the only way imo. Grossly over eating and working out hard is the quickest way from point A to point B. Now, is that healthy? That’s a whole different discussion. Lol. If I was a hard gainer, I would add a weight gain or meal replacement shake on top of my normal caloric intake. Hitting the gym is a must with this approach however.

Note: we may be talking about two different things. My post was about gaining weight not IF.
