In my first 5 years I probably had < 10 posts .. People had already posted most of the things I would have said

I did (and still do) pay the Site Supporter -- just cause I think it's worth it to support this site

Then I followed a few of the "Hello" threads and soon had over 2000 posts
    ... ( some members have over 100,000 )

    Not very many

Original question, Why the restrictions on classifieds...

Well, because of the thousands that come here and try to treat it like armslist or gunbroker.
Because some people treat the place like customers that can't bother to get the cigarette ashes in the ashtray.
Because the owner wants it that way.

    A, B, or C.

Or some combination of all three.

    Either way, it's 50 or $20.

A post a week, for one year gets that.
If you don't post a lot, I still recommend trying to hit that target.
Because, you might be here for years, and then all of a sudden, something in the classies catches your eye and you want it.
And if you had put in the 50, there'd be no problem.

Because everyone tends to think I can be sarcastic, and/or mean...
    This is not sarcasm.
    This is not mean.

It is, the way it is.
    Nothing more.
    Nothing less.

I think we need a set of ceremonial golden starter blocks, which we can figuratively award to runners, just to show them that we truly support them in their erstwhile efforts.
Maybe a virtual baton, as well, so they can pass it to the next "shooter" in line.
+1 for using the word "erstwhile". Kinda gives the joint some class.

So I have been a member here for a while. I am not a very social individual. I read a lot, I ask a few questions, maybe answer a few. I just don't share my opinion very often. In this case I will. I want to use the classifieds. Evidently I am not social or opinionated enough. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense. Just saying.

With all due respect, it seems that you are personalizing this a bit.

The rule does not make sense for your situation. It does not make sense from your perspective.

The rule is not intended for your situation, and not intended for you specifically. It is intended for the 99.5% of others who wander through the forum. :oldwise:

I get the sense that the owners / people who run the forum are interested in creating something more cohesive and social than some of the other forums out there. :buddies:

I try and post something useful, or at least pertinent, to be able to use the classifieds. While there have been a few flakes that have not followed through on things, the vast majority of people I have interacted with and met in person have been decent people. I prefer to buy from someone on this forum over FB marketplace or something similar for that reason.

Make some posts. Understand that there are people who will respectfully have a different opinion. Typed words suck at conveying meaning and intent. Also understand that some people live to argue because they were not hugged as children. There is a block feature that is VERY handy. ;)

Folks, before you click “post reply” reword your posts as necessary to remove any verbiage that might be construed as insulting other members.
