You may have wanted a "business man" to clean things up, but I for one want someone to put the brakes on spending. Trump was never going to do that. He is a big proponent of debt. Government debt is not the same as business debt. Especially in the lack of bankruptcy as a fallback.
This politician you think is going to be able to single-handedly 'put the brakes upon spending', how may I receive his newsletter?

I never said I had one currently to choose. I was responding to a specific statement about Trump. Do you actually disagree with my assessment?

No, I was seeing if all you want to do is complain or if you really had a plan, an alternative that keeps you believing Trump is not inevitable and someone else has a better chance of defeating the left this time around

Inevitable is a pretty strong word. I'm not going to stick my head in the sand and proclaim how he is the most awesomest ever. If he wins the nomination, he'll get my vote again.

And wth do you mean if I really had a plan? I have no control over who is running for office. I can only watch those that decide to and figure out who I think is the best when our turn to vote in the primary. As late as we are, I doubt I will have much of a choice.

Perfect is the enemy of good enough
The only ones espousing perfection around here are the hard core Trumpers. I don't think anyone else has any delusions about there being anyone close to perfect.

Maybe if more Trumpers pushed back on some of his bad, he would change his tune in some of those areas.

Maybe if some of the greek choir got behind him and contributed to the effort he could arrive at the Oval Office this time with an undeniable mandate and more allies in congress

I just see people doing everything they can to weaken the effort who will then complain that he can't or doesn't get anything done. You tried that before, maybe it is time to try something different

In 2020 Uncle Joe had more votes than any other Presidential candidate in the history of the country.
I know it wasn't the 100% vote that Saddam Hussein and Kim Jong Il accumulated. But still it's a respectable count.
As long as he's breathing, can he ever be defeated?

We actually came as close to getting a R Rep as we have in a very long time here. Sadly I doubt I will see one in my lifetime since I am lumped in with Lake County.

Everything they can to weaken? Give me a break. If you think pointing out the stuff we don't like about him is doing everything we can to weaken, then you are really delusional. God forbid we don't all become Trump drones espousing how everything he does is the best that has ever been done.

Constantly harping on Trump's real and supposed flaws certainly isn't designed to strengthen his candidacy!

So if your actions are designed to weaken support for him, but he is the best chance to defeat the democrats in the next election, what exactly do you wish to accomplish if you aren't supporting a candidate you believe has a better chance?

DeSantis is done, whether his fanbois can grasp that or not. The people that want Trump want the real thing. The people that don't want Trump don't want the rabid mini-Trump. Now the narrative has shifted to 'polling shows Haley has the best chance to beat Biden in the general'. If you are credulous enough to believe that, given what you must hear from other conservatives, then one would think you would now be on the Haley bandwagon

It just seems that an awful lot of people who claim they want to defeat the Dems in '24 are unserious and have no other agenda other than notTrump and have not thought beyond what getting their wish might entail. Seems to me a better fall back position might be worrying about supporting and electing America First strict constitutionalists to the House and Senate to enable Trump to get things done but limit what you feel are his extra-constitutional impulses

I'm sure all of the Trump dogging makes you feel better in some way, but from the outside it just seems like obsessive hem-of-garment concern. Do you root for the republicans by endlessly criticizing their pick for first string quarterback and trying to destroy any inclination for others to support him? Play the hand you're dealt like you need to win - because you do

“So that’s where we start if DeSantis drops out: Trump leading Haley 49% to 20%.“

“If Haley dropped out, Trump would get 12% of her supporters, if the Des MoinesRegister poll is correct, which ticks him up 2 points to 45%.”

If someone has as a core principle, it's a legitimate complaint if a politician falls short. You make it sound like the only such criticisms allowed are for politicians who aren't Trump. If fiscal responsibility, or pro-life, or not doing government shutdowns, is high on your priorities, Trump is not an ideal candidate.

But, if the prevailing winds continue as predicted, the choice may not allow one to have cake and eat it too. If it's a choice between ClownWorld™ and not-ClownWorld™ I guess we just have to concede that we can't have nice things. Doesn't mean we can't criticize shortcomings.

For the sake of argument, let's say the ClownWorld™ vs not-ClownWorld™ choice ends up being Biden vs DeSantis, and you vote for not-ClownWorld™. Are you then prohibited from complaining about any shortcomings he might have?

All I see is a lot of :crying: about me not supporting Trump like you do.

I'll continue to point out stuff I don't like from him just as I would for any other person. Around here he is pretty much the only one that has people glossing over his negatives, which promotes pushback from those that are not as enthralled with him. Like his cabinet and other appointments.

So if your actions are designed to weaken support for him
Why do you think of it as being designed? No one whines at you when you criticized someone they might vote for, although they might argue the validity or relevance of the criticism. Are you designing it for some other purpose than to express your values? And if you are, is it fair to assume others have that motive? Or are you just projecting it? I think it's a fair question.

I think it's cognitive dissonance. Can't withstand criticisms of someone they idolize, so they try to stop the criticisms. Can't remember now who it was, but someone posted a thread maybe a couple years ago something to the effect of "why can't I just be delusional without people trying to tell me the truth?" Obviously not the exact words but that's essentially what it was.

No, trying to duplicate the success of the left.

The left generally coalesces around their leaders. The right cannot even pick a leader. Why? Because of of all the infighting, The ridiculous amount of negative posting some here do concerning Trump is a problem to winning. Heck if the the right in unanimity had demanded true investigation of the election anomalies it may well have changed the outcome, but one thing the left can count on is at least a third of so called right will backstab the cause…

We finally got a president that actually delivered and naysayers just keep fomenting division..

Again with the "it isn't Trump's fault".

I bet the Dems wish they were as monolithic as you make them out to be.
