Him being at the Statehouse is intentionally putting himself into the public light? It's his job to be there. It's really also his job to talk to citizens that wish to speak with him.

It's not Jim Lucas' job to walk into an obvious trap, successfully laid by our enemies. He could have just not played into the game. Much less not giving them a gift that they might not have even expected.

I feel bad for Mr Lucas. As he stated himself just a few weeks ago, he's not right in his head.

If he had refused to talk to them it would have still been a "moment" for the "oppo". They woud have spun it as "arrogant Republican Rep refuses to speak with constituents".

I’ve said this same thing about half a dozen times in this thread. Some people just seem to have a stiffy for him and I don’t get it. Between them the fudds and the butters we are screwed.

I think to many in this thread, nothing he does, did or oculd have done would be good enough. Kind of like TDS, only on a local level.

    Love this quote.

Felt so unsafe that they stayed and argued with him.
That’s why I said earlier: they weren’t scared, they didn’t “feel unsafe”. Hanging around to mewl at a state rep even after he pulled his coat back to briefly show his safely holstered firearm is not what someone does if she feels unsafe in the current situation.

    Sounds like you're chicken.

    :D

Disagree. Nobody is scared of self-defense. The primary association is crime and violence among those scared of guns. These kids are taught to fear school shootings like we were taught to fear Commie nukes and tornado storms. My ex-wife was a prime example, though she eventually came around. She said when she was a girl "the only people who had guns were cops and criminals". Showing people non-criminals and non-cops carrying guns is not a cure all, but it's not bad. It was like taming a horse though, lots of little steps of acclimation. Obviously I've no idea what her thoughts/experiences are now, but when I went overseas (last I saw her) she was carrying a .380. Big ideological shift there, though still very liberal in others.

To nobody in particular, remember teens are idiots. You were an idiot when you were a teen. I was an idiot when I was a teen. If you think your teens today aren't idiots, you either aren't paying attention or they are good at hiding things. With their soft little forebrains, feeling things so intensely, and complete lack of life experience they are *all idiots* to some degree or other. Now that we're all old grumpy cynical tired men, we forget what it was like to feel so intensely because everything is new and we're not numb to the world yet.
You bring up a good point about "active shooter" drills in schools adding to the fear of guns in children. Your point about how youngsters look at things is on point too. I remember hearing something that goes, "If you are a conservative as a young person, you haven't a heart. If you are liberal as a grown up, you have no brain!"

Characterizing that interaction as a "trap" is defeatist thinking. How was it a "trap"? Lawmaker engages in a perfectly civil conversation, and acts perfectly reasonable and lawful while discussing a matter with constituents who disagree with his stance on an issue.

I have a conspiracy hypothesis coming later. I'm still INGOing at about 20% (I have a brace on my mouse hand until after lunch) but I hate to waste that much time and not share it with everyone :lmfao:

Good point, like how kids from the 50's-70's were scared to death of nuclear war.

Ya know, I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and I hardly ever gave nuclear war a thought. I certainly don’t remember being scared to death. I remember them having us do the drills too.

Maybe overly concerned is more appropriate, here's a literature review from the mid to late 80's showing it was pretty prevalent back then:

We were all supposed to be dead by now with only cockroaches left surviving on earth. If the nukes did not get us global cooling, global warming, acid rain, Y2K, or some other disaster was going to wipe us off the face of the earth.

    Yet, here we are.
