Gonna look this book up. Sounds good
Early in Asimov's career he wrote mostly biochemistry and mathematics textbooks (huge things!), but dabbled only a bit in fiction. He wrote for some of the popular science fiction monthly magazines before he began with novels.

"Nightfall" (I think it's called a novelette nowdays) was in a collection of short stories he had published.
It should be easy to locate.

Except for those textbooks, I have read all of his efforts I can find. I highly recommend his work.

Like Shakespeare? Enjoy The Holy Bible? He also wrote "annotated versions" of both which help us to understand the background, politics and history in play at the time they were written.
    Good Reading!

I'm not afraid to admit in this group of curmudgeons, lol, that I'm going to watch it.

I can stand in my yard for time period that it is actually happening, watch something that I may not be alive long enough to see again and after it's over go back to whatever I was doing.

I took a vacation day since my wife is off work and we can get some stuff done that day.

I expect it to be a productive day with an event thrown in to experience.

Don’t harsh my chill (I hope I got that right, I heard it on the TV once). I plan to put on body armor, carry an AK and an AR with a leg drop holster full of USP .45 goodness and got patrol the city streets.
I think it's "don't harsh my mellow." After patrolling your AOR have a cigar and a bourbon, win-win!

Us too, we even bought the goggles for us and the grandkids. I am not going to change my will or the beneficiaries on the bank accounts, not even buying extra insurance.

Like you mentioned earlier about Y2K. While at Westinghouse, I did instrument and control work for the power utility in Illinois. We knew if there was ANY concern about losing a single minute of billing, they would have every electrician on forced overtime holding the switchgear engaged with 2 X 4's. The IT boys sure made a lot of money selling program "patches"

Well crap, i hadn't thought about gas prices jump cause of all this eclipse crap. Shoulda got gas yesterday while it was 329gal.
I dont why people thibk they absolutely have to be directly at some event when it can be watched live on tv. All these people that complaint about the cost of things..and what do these people do.. they go out and blow a ton of money on nonsense just to say.."i was there".. just ridiculous
Some of us will remember sharing a rare celesital event with family and friends. Time spent enjoying each other's company and marveling at a wonder that occurs rarely in one's lifetime.

Others will whine about gas prices.

I hope I never become the latter.

I will be in Wapakoneta, my little brother & myself have some property on the extreme north end of town, his home is right across the street, our families and a few good friends are spending the day together. To get to share with my friends and family sounds like a good time. But just incase it isn't a good time, I'm packing an extra gun or 2. I suspect out by the Armstrong museum, restaurant row & the off /on ramp at I-75 will be a flipping disaster. Not going anywhere near that. The back roads outa town are my friends.

I have a relative that had a job in the IT industry leading up to Y2K. He spent two years traveling to corporations to insure that their computer systems wouldn't go down on New Years Day.

He made good money for what turned out to be a non-event. I'm proud of him. :)
To be fair there was a ton of work that went into making systems ready for y2k. That code didn't fix itself from the stupidity that was 2 digit years. It was a non event because most things were fixed in advance.

Holcomb is not the only one, NASA and lots of states, including signs along highways. Network talk shows have had people talking about "being prepared". Make you wonder what kind of BS the deep state is going to pull and hide it behind the eclipse.
Well also an interesting time for some of our the less US friendly places around the world to pull some stuff in areas that are having a ton of influx of people. You know since they've been able to cross our borders at will and be among us, leading up to this.
