      I got the 223 mainly for coyotes but also had the thought of bagging a smaller doe with it. I was hesitant to try it on that buck. I had never laid eyes on him before so it was truly a surprise when he walked out.

      No pass through. Internal damage was surprising considering it was a .223 soft point. He flinched when I shot so I was pretty sure I hit him. When there was no blood where he was standing I began to have my doubts. I began walking the direction he went and found him a few minutes later.

      Snagged this big boy on Saturday evening at about 4:45. 12 pointer, 230 pounds field dressed. Had him weighed at the processor. 155 yard shot with my new Ruger American Ranch in .223. I felt way under gunned when I saw him. I wished I had grabbed the .270 instead. He ran a 40 yard circle...

      I had a similar experience at Lowes this morning. When we are parking the car I notice a young boy, 7 or 8, walking dangerously close to our car. My wife stops the car and asks me where the boy came from. I look up and see 2 guys walking about 20 yards in front of the boy, not paying a lick...

      Several days this week so far. I stabbed myself in thumb twice yesterday with a needle file while working on a lock cylinder at work. 1st time not so bad, 2nd time I did a # on the old thumb. Bled for a good while.

      No deer? No problem.

      My boys have both been hunting with Grandpa this year. Niether has gotten a deer (yet) but they have said they have enjoyed spending time with him. He is 72 and they know his hunting time is somewhat limited. I am proud that the boys recognize that the fellowship is the important part.

      cheap (but not junk) turkey gun - 500-535-870?

      Mossberg 835 here. Slayed many a bird with it. I like the extra distance I get out of the 3.5" mag. Sounds unbelievable to me now, but I paid $269 for it NIB at Dicks Sporting Goods a few years back.
