      2022 Deer season

Seen a good number of bucks through the season up here in Three Rivers. Last day of bow before rifle starts tomorrow. At 7:02 had a big doe cruise through followed by a mature buck with great mass. He wasn't stopping. Just before 9am had another doe come through. Two minutes later I see a...

      Hunting Season is Upon Us

Get a couple doe and keep the best parts for your family. Backstraps are the best steaks. But in the winter slow cooked or instant-pot shanks are the best there is. Incredible flavor and silky smooth. Unbelievably good with root veggies & mashed potatoes. Whatever main cuts you like best on...

      FBI raids Trumps home

Just after Trump's inauguration. The glee in Chuck U. Schumer's giddy as a school-girl's voice. The glimmer of foreknowledge and expectation in Chuckie's hollow, soulless eyes. I think the the boys are up to #4 on Six Ways From Sunday.

Fair trade? Russian lord of war for WNBA star with a drug problem

Came across this New Yorker article pubished in 2012 about Viktor Boutt. EXCELLENT read. Very entertaining and enlightening. Intriguing info on DEA Special Operations Unit. I was surprised how the DEA rewarded 'Carlos', a major cocaine-trafficker, with $7million USD for the work he did in a...

      Albino squirrels anybody?

We have two young piebald fox squirrels with pure white tails running around the office yard this year. Only the tails are white.

      Help Me Pick a Scope?

Here's an outlier to consider. Leupold FX-3 6x42. Fixed power scopes intrinsically offer lighter weight, greater durability, higher optical brightness and wider field-of-view. Once you settle on the ammo specs, slap a Leupy Custom Dial System (CDS) on the elevation turret and you're golden.

      Opinel

Nice! Well done by your son. I've had a carbon blade No. 8 in my pocket every day for about 9 years. Love the little bugger and it stays razor sharp with a few strokes on the honing steel from time to time. Harvested a pound or so of oyster shrooms with it last weekend on a trail walk with...

Germans raising money to feed the hungry in America.

This and others, featuring China, Slovenia etc. are parody ads meant to shed light on the hunger need in America. Bad marketing if you ask me. https://leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2021/11/fact-check-ads-to-feed-hungry-americans-did-not-originate-from-other-countries.html

      Deer Season 2021

Around 11:15 this guy ran across a patch chasing a doe. She stepped off into the tree line and he decided to take a break and nibble on some pine boughs for a bit. Had him dead to rights, broadside at 46.5 yds, let an arrow fly and missed him too low. Broadhead must have nicked him judging by...

      Rittenhouse pleads 'Not Guilty'

Hey BBI, does part (a) stand on its own or does the assailant have to perform part (b) to regain the right to self defense? Part (a) seems to reinstate the right to self defense if the assailant is in fear of life, even if part (b) is not acted upon. Regarding part (b), would Rittenhouse's...

      Deer Season 2021

Good movement the last couple of days, glad I took some time off. Seeing young bucks chasing and trailing. My wife saw this guy today out the living room window trailing a doe, she also saw an antlerless buck breeding a doe. Peak rut is close at hand.

      Mushrooms

Yep, they're crown-tipped corals. Edible but very delicate and have to be used pretty quickly, they don't store well. If you wait a few days they'll get crumbly. They're nice to add into a soup at the very end before serving.

      Hot bluing

Thanks, perfect timing! Picked up an old Marlin 512 Slugmaster this past week and it needs a little TLC. Been thinking about cold blue options.

.357 Loads for deer hunting/Want to share my new Blackhawk

Never taken deer with a .357 pistol; but I've used it successfully with a NEF Handy Rifle II single shot on two deer. Ammo's been Buffalo Bore Outdoorsman 180 gr. hard cast (lead flat-nose). Punches a nice hole through & through. Neither went more than 50 yards. Muzzle velocity & fpe for...
