Salamonie Lake / SF--anyone do any waterfowling?

Anyone have any tips on waterfowling at Salamonie Lake or SF? The weather looks like it's going to turn ducky, and I'd like to take a stab at some ducks and geese as they come into season.

      Deer dillemma--what would you do

I got a call Thanksgiving morning from a relative telling me that a buck had been "acting funny" on their property since daybreak. I got over there at about 10:30 and found the buck pretty easily. He was very much alive (3 hours after the landowner first saw him) but clearly not okay. He...

      Caliber / shot placement comparison

I thought it might be useful if we started collecting our experiences with different calibers and shot placements. I'd ask only for direct experience, starting this year--stuff you've done yourself, whether you took the shot or processed the deer. With enough data, maybe we can get a better...

      Help me diagnose this shot

I shot a decent buck this morning--still working on the recovery. Weird situation--deer reacted in a way I've never seen, and I'm trying to figure out where I hit him. All shots are with a .44 mag carbine, 240 grain Hornady XTP. First shot was at 30 yards, pretty steep downward angle since I...

      Weather helping out for once

High winds today and tomorrow here in NE Indiana. Hopefully that forces those old gray ghosts to hunker down for two days, so they are hungry, thirsty, pent up, and moving all day Saturday.

You know the price of beef is getting high when . . .

My wife saw me eating breakfast Saturday morning and said, "What are you doing here? Go get in the woods." 2nd piece of evidence--we had a fat doe in the front yard, and I got my bow and snuck the bathroom window open. Then my 9 year old went running by one of the front windows playing a game...

Thoughts on deer numbers this year?

After the last couple hard winters and the spring flooding, I would have expected deer numbers to be down this fall. But anecdotally, I'm seeing a lot as I drive around and a lot of good sign in the woods. Anyone have thoughts or data on what the population will look like?

      The Whiskey Rebellion

» The Whiskey Rebellion, Or, How One Man Can Hijack the American Vision Link to an essay on how easy it has been historically for one man, or a small group, to grab the tiller and steer America where they want, even upstream against the will of the people.
