      Gathering at Five Medals

Anyone coming this weekend? I'll be blacksmithing again this year. Will be taking my newly built replica of the forge that pvt. John Shields used on the Lewis and Clark Expedition of Discovery 1804 - 1806. If you are there stop by and say hi. https://youtu.be/1tpRWjPDxUw...

      Mountain bike purchase

I saw the Specialized Hard rock mentioned in this thread. I personally think that the Rockhopper is well worth the extra money. Much better components. It is an excellent bike that many beginning racers start out riding. Now all my bikes other than the tandem are Salsa. They are...

Calling all hunters: Looking for that "All-Around" round

the 2 I use most are .223 in the AR with factory loads or Hornady 58 gr Vmax with 39 gr IMR 3031 for longer range in the .243. This hand load gives me 3650 fps from the Remington 700. Very accurate load for me.

Calling all hunters: Looking for that "All-Around" round

.222, .223, 22/250, .222swift, .243 high velocity varmint loads in any of those are great. 22/250 and .243 would have a little more range. Since I doubt he will be hand loading I would probably stay with .223 or .243 because of ammo availability. There is a wide choice of both guns and ammo...

IN DL renewal timing -- will I get a ticket or beaten?

You beat old people? I guess I better not have any violations when you are around. Oh well. It's been at least 20 years since I got a ticket so I must not be too much of a target.

I'm guessing you are talking about Stones trace. Their event is in September. Not as strict period correct but still worth attending. Gathering at 5 Medals us further north. A mile west of Benton. Period rules are pretty strict. Gathering at Five Medals :: Home

My 1816 anvil with the knife on top. A few pictures working my demo blacksmith shot at the corn maze. Enough derailing the thread. Now we can go back to BP

Not quite what you asked for. A picture of the knife and a cleaver that belonged to my wife's grandmother. The cleaver was very rusty and the handle was rotted away when I found it in the chicken house. I think you can guess what it was used for. I cleaned it and reworked the edge...

Priming container with 4f in the pouch. Since your read the Gathering at 5 Medals requirements you probably know I was going for the 1790 - 1816 period. Think I am doing OK at that? Still planning to finish it off at the Conner show in Feb and Kalamazoo show in March. Knife and sheath are...

It would be interesting to see if the Christian Beck and Jacob Beck are the same ones that are the closest related to me. Some of those names are used over so often that it gets difficult keeping them all straight. I do have the information in my Great-great-great grandfather and great-great...

We shot it with very light loads and not very often. Didn't want to damage the gun or injure anyone. It has been a prized possession in the family.

Nice, I like it. I still want to build a Christian Beck. J. P. Beck and 3 different Christian Becks all made rifles. They were all related. In fact they all are related to me. One of them is my Great-great-great grandfather. I had the privilege to shoot one of his original rifles owned by...
