I drive 65 on the interstate and still get passed.
And the officers were working a grant-paid detail so they weren't taking away from manpower.
Grant money doesn't magically create more people, either they're working traffic or doing real work.

What? No one up in arms at all the Staties that were on 37 between Bloomington and Martintucky yesterday? And between Crane and Bloomington?
Thats nothing new for 37 it's always like that.
Whoever is paying to ship the load. These big things need special oversize permits. They aren't cheap and they require a police escort.Who pays for the police escorts these semis have down US 36? I have been seeing state police running escort for these guys all summer, hauling bridge parts or wind mill parts.....not sure what they are but they are big. Do the contractors have to reimburse the taxpayer for this service?

Donut truck overturn????
Epic curbstomp preparation meeting.

The exception is the wind farm parts. Since it's guberment funded, we are footing the bill.
I had often wondered about that. Last time they came by there was a bunch of them. Pretty sure it was a windmill part. Now why is it that police do the escort instead of pilot cars and trucks? Do people just not pay attention to pilot cars like they do police cars?
We have a huge grinder we ship to Detroit from time to time......I know that driver has spent days sitting on the side of the road at the Michigan border waiting for them to allow him to go on to Detroit.
I found out what was going on.
They heard I was driving through the area and knew they needed at least that many cars if they wanted to pull ME over.
Grant money pays off-duty officers to work specific enforcement areas. It doesn't take away from "real work" manpower.
I love these Monday-morning-QB threads. And, they're always about LE work!
When do the public safety guys get to tell auto-workers how to do their jobs?

Just because there's grant money doesn't mean anybody has to use it. The only ones benefitting from this are the off duty cops lining their pockets. The day after this is over it'll be business as usual on 465. How about a grant to work off duty on the weekends in some of the higher crime areas around Indy not pulling over some joker going 10 over on 465.
