Some friends of my told me there will be someone who is always at the show that will "custom build" an AR for me ( only need the upper). Is this correct? If it is, does this person have a website that shows what he will be bringing to the show? ie manufacturers

Maybe you are referencing J&T? J&T Distributing: AR-15 & Black Rifle Specialists

They are my favorite Kentuckians. I just drop off a lower and they build it up according to how I want it while I walk the show.

Look for J&T as they have an "island" surrounded by AR-15 parts, tool boxes and a workbench.

They dress like typical Kentuckians as depicted here:

Curious what you guys have against Model 1 sales? Price? Quality? What?

I have one of their uppers because I couldn't find anything like it at the show. Performance is good, like many others it has a key hole stamped forged flat top upper.

I second Kirks statement about J&T, super nice guys that put out a great product at a great price. If I could say something nicer I would, but the words fail me. I bought one from them years ago and fell in love with the service and deals they offer.

That picture and this thread make me hungry for some chicken and make me lust after an AR build I have going on in my head.

Model 1 doesn't have much in the way of quality control and their lower parts are sometimes out of spec. I have used their upper and kits with mixed results. I probably wouldn't buy one again. I looked at their uppers and noticed a lot of them had mismatched feed ramps. when I found one that was acceptable I was talking to one of the guys working their table and he wasn't very knowledgeable and rude. This wasn't my first bad experience with them but I was looking to save a couple bucks. I figured if i checked it out first I could find something suitable but I would NEVER order one from them again. :noway:

Here's a novel idea.. and I'm being dead serious.. get a RRA upper. Why add trash to a work of art?

Rock River makes decent stuff, but I don't think they qualify for the "work of art" category of ARs. No offense but they are considered mid-level at best.

I do agree with you that since he has a RRA lower then spending a bit more to get a matching upper is not a bad idea.

For discussion what do you "need" / "want" for a custom built AR upper?
