Heard one gobbling a couple mornings early last week, nothing so far this week.

Just be sure to use repellents on clothes/skin.
    Hunting north, no ticks.
    Southern IN.............freakin' horrible.
One of our guys got Lyme disease.

I use Deep Woods off on skin and Sawyers permethrin on clothes (sprayed and dried in advance per directions).
Permethrin is nasty (cancer warnings). IMHO ticks are worse.

Would not hunt southern IN without it.

Already getting bad. Lone Star and immature dog ticks are out. Didn't really think about it but last weekend I was shooting in the back yard and by the time I was done had better than a half dozen crawling on my socks and legs with a couple already starting to bite in.

    wrong.
early season toms roost near hens and YOu can't compete with the real thing!

late season & late morning/noonish are some of best hunts for success.

Hey MR. Know it All, I was joking about the Toms sleeping off their lovin' - my sarcasm for them not showing up for my hunts. Geeze.

    yep MR know-it?

My first american wild turkey was harvested in Texas County, Missouri on public Mark Twain Nat'l forest on a Monday of their second week Spring season.

Second Tom was harvested in Jackson Co. Indiana on public land Hoosier National Forest on opening day, Wednesday.

My third Tom was harvested on Saturday of that week in Summers Co. , West Virginia on public land, Bluestone lake.

    All were called by me.

NONE were taken at first light

If you can bowhunt deer with a longbow........
you MAY be able to harvest an american wild turkey.

    good hunting in 2020
probably much less "competition" from other hunters......
    same competition from hens, though

    BTW, longbows suck.
And opening day is the easiest time to whack a bird IMHO.

longbows & recurves really separate the men from the boy bowhunters.......

btw, each of my turkey hunts described above were failures based upon harvesting a Tom at fly down because none where shot before 11am as I recall.

and if you harvest a bird at first fly down on the first day of the season in most states you are done for season or year if only Spring season, except if you hunt out-of-state.
most hunters don't have the skills or sounds like the patience it takes.........

and you whack a bird sounds like you are really skilled at something?
just not sure that's how I explains or describes what hunting any type of game, is about...
    YMMV, of course

Haven’t scouted yet this year. I’m slacking but I’ve hunted the same land for a few years. Bagged a biggie two years ago from this group using a lone hen. Had two toms wrapping necks over her. Wouldn’t separate for a clean shot until after a few minutes of awesome video footage. Yeah I had that much time... I promise you, I have video.

I got back from Texas the other day. It was tough hunting this year. Jakes at every turn that were extremely agressive and ran the long beards off. Finally on Day 3, it worked out though as I finally crossed paths with three beautiful toms. A 7 yard smack to the throat and it was over.

    Enjoy ...

Had a few gobble back at me while scouting yesterday. They’re ready!

    sad for Indiana....
from the top of a "hilltop" in Texas County, MO "the Ozarks" I heard 40 to 50 gobblers from every direction the first year I harvested an American Wild Turkey.......
Out-of-state hunts just make me green with envy:)

Looking forward to getting out this week. Every year my hunting partner kills a dandy. He lives for the hunt. I live for being out there. It is okay with me if I don’t fire a shot.

this is what a custom 20ga. turkey gun with four pound trigger looks like:
original gun has 12 pound pull impossible for 6 yr. old girl......
