    Is 9mm the new .22LR?

No. Serious people can reload, or know someone that can, 9 but nobody can reload 22 in any realistic sense. The run on 9mm is because it's probably the most culturally common round in pop culture (rappers have been talking about their "9s" for my entire life), is a good starter round for people so it's popular in general on top of that, and then when something happens the newbs all go out and buy their second box of it at the same time.

    That's my theory anyhow.

And to think I shot 200 rounds of 9mm today... Guess that was a mistake. I've got a decent stock, but blew through 400 rounds last couple of weeks testing out some new to me guns.

My LGS says their suppliers are telling them that 9mm and .223/5.56 are now 'allotted', whatever that means.

So in other words any commercially available ammo the gov currently uses is not freely available for 'people'.

What bad can come of that?

Too much panic buying. There's plenty of ammo being made and this panic situation will only ramp production till there is a glut of ammo again.

I did not see a run on ammo coming due to a flu virus.

We didn't buy anything extra. We have enough to live for awhile with what is in our home.

The only thing I may be a little short on is materials for the reno of my two bathrooms. If I get quarantined for two weeks, I could probably get the tile work done. :)

Allotted means that when they get in shipments that they will only allow each shop to buy so much at a time. This way everybody gets a little. They do the same thing when the newest hot gun comes in

I'm just going to imagine that's the entry way to your house...

Walk in the front door, put your case of carry ammo back in its appropriate place, full combat load of mags back in the wall hangers, sling the rifle over the front door, change into your slippers and jacket, grab your SBS for casual TV watching defensive needs, and ask to the kitchen what's for dinner.

I now have new life goals.

Long guns slung over entry knobs? You think I am a primitive barbarian? Of course not, I built a long gun rack for guests who bring long guns.

Maybe this run on ammo will sway some on the fence voters in November?

Even the naive can understand that Joe/Bernie and that crowd would change their ability to react this way in the event of other emergencies?

This coronavirus has everyone buying up all the ammo including 22lr for no dang reason. We won’t have looters trying to steal your toilet paper so relax. Just my 2 cents.

I stopped by Cabelas this morning and while they didn't have what I was looking for, I bought some .22LR and 30-30 which were in fine supply at the time. I "loaned" my M & P 22 to my son and sent him off with ammo, so I needed restock. The 30-30.....just 'cause.

However, "military" cartridges and 9mm seemed in short supply (I have "too much" already).

It was pretty busy in the gun department for 9am on a Monday.

I have 30k rounds of 9mm coming in tomorrow afternoon. 10k brass, 20k steel case. That should last a couple days at the store.

Stopped at Stock and Field. there must have been 8-10 men in line buying ammo. The first guy took all the 5.56 they had left. i finished off the Blazer .22 that was on sale. Ammo was going fast in the main calibers. Still had plenty of the "other" calibers.
