Handgun safety and commonsense would save this life makes us all look bad

It's not about making us look bad. Tragedy of a little one being killed when It SHOULD have not have happened.
I will not judge the person that left it within reach. I hope all find peace.

Now that it's public knowledge, note:

The handgun was found to have no safety and no lock on it. In addition to the weapon with which the child shot himself, eight other firearms were found inside the home which were loaded, all of which had no trigger lock, and some of which were easily accessible to the children.

So, this was NOT simply laying down a gun or a split second and a child accessing it in that split second. There were multiple guns loaded and easily reachable by the child.

It seems like carrying 1 gun on body makes a lot more sense than leaving 8 stashed around the house.

Maybe with the plea deal it's "20 years" but eligible for parole in 3 or 5 years???

I agree...It seems there are folks who do a lot worse and get out a lot sooner...

Six years of the sentence are to be served on Community Corrections and the remaining fourteen years were suspended. Gulling was ordered to be on probation for fourteen years after he completes the Community Corrections sentence. As a convicted felon, Gulling will be prohibited from possessing any firearms.
