You gotta feel confident to shoot 100 yards across the bow of an SUV at 40 yards...

68 db is what they said on the video. That is less than half normal .308 (158db or so). Very cool. Have any of you tried getting audio levels from down range? I.E. What is the heard db level from 80 yards down range?

    A dryfire will meter above 100 dB @ 1M...

I've had mine for nearly a year now so I'll chime in. to answer your questions as best I can...

    1. I've only shot mine out to 150 yards, but can hit a 4" steel plate pretty easily

    2. My SAS can was one of the most reasonably priced cans. It was under $550 a a year and a half ago. It's a stainless, thread on can.

    3. Standard rounds can be tolerated for awhile without ear protection. Subsonic is considerably quieter. Some have said similar to a suppressed .22, I'd say a bit louder. Still darn quiet!

    4. Different powder, possbly different bullets. Lots of loading data out there. Iv'e got a couple of threads saved if you want to look them over.

    5. I had my FNH PBR threaded for my can first, now I've got a .223 AR-15 with 5/8" threads for the can, .300 BLK upper, a thread adaptor for my full auto AC-556 and just picked up an AR-10 carbine that is threaded and ready to go. Barrel twist is more of an issue than length. Only if you are wanting to run heavy bulleted subsonic loads, though.

OK, fo rthe usefulness of subsonic loads....yes, they are really cool, however their trajectory is about like a .38 special! For me, with a 100 yard zero, they are hitting several inches low at 100 yards. Considerably lower at 150. they still have plenty of penetration and power out further, but drop is a big condieration. If you are shooting at a set range and know your aiming point, you are fine. Have to drop a coyote in the field behind your house? You'll probably need a laser rangefinder and a chart on holdover! I have been very happy with my can on all three calibers so far. I don't make it down to MCC as much as I'd like, but next time I'm down, I"ll try and give you some notice and you are welcome to try mine out.

We all know how video doesn't do suppressor much justince, but hey, who doesn't like to see soem toys in action?

Let's say someone wants to take their .308 and head in a suppressed direction, let me ask the experienced here the following questions:

    1. What is the effective range of subsonic .308?
    2. What is the average cost for a quality .308 can?
    3. What is the level of quiet to be expected from a suppressed .308 bolt?
    4. Is it correct to assume that reloading .308 to subsonic is no more challenging than regular .308?
    5. Any .308 threaded bolt should be able to use the can, right? Is barrel length an issue?

    Thanks all for your advice,
    Techres

Well...I might as well post my .308 can as well....bear in mind this is being shot under an overhead with close berms on both sides.

I saw someone mention 125 yard effective range...I have shot this one a good bit at 200 and some at 300 and it performed very well. Currently I use 220 gr Match Kings but am planning a change to the Hornady 208 gr A-Max in the future.

Trail Boss is a great powder for .308 subsonic because it is very bulky. the more of the case capacity you use the lower the SD normally is.
