I have a Rock River Arms 16” upper with a RRA lower and 2 stage match trigger. I mounted a Bushnell 3 x 9 x 40 elite 3200 scope with Burris 1” high rings. Using Corbon 300 gr. JHP ammunition I was able to shoot 7/8” groups at 100 yds. I started reloading with cheap Remington 300 gr. JHP bullets hoping to achieve good accuracy with this bullet because of their price (I like to shoot allot). I chose Winchester 296 powder with CCI 350 LPMP to work up a load for this rifle. The gun shoots best with 36.5 gr. of powder if I do my part it will shoot 1 ragged hole at 100 yds. I had the opportunity to shoot 220 yds over the weekend; the rest I was using was not the best but still managed to shoot a 3 shot group of 1-3/8”. The bullet should be traveling around 2,000 fps at the muzzle more than enough energy to harvest a deer at 200 yds. These guns are so much fun to shoot, big bore in an AR platform. This is no doubt my favorite rifle.:ar15:

near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
I need to add a little more weight to mine, it's still pretty punishing to shoot (and I shoot .50bmg a lot!). I put the Magpul UBR stock on it which adds some weight, but another couple pounds would be nice.

The .458 socom is going to be what gets me into casting my own bullets, those suckers cost more than my projectiles for my .50bmg!

I'm excited to hear this. I got my 458 two weeks ago, but still need to get a buttstock for it. Can't wait to get it done and work up some loads for this deer season.

The performance of your 458 SOCOM is fantastic. Congratulations.

If I had one I would definitely get into bullet casting. I was seriously considering getting one and looked into the bullet casting to support reloading and shooting it. I then decided not to buy the 458 SOCOM (at least not for a while)

    Best regards,

    Terry

This is one of the load's I got from 458socom.com. Somewhere on there they showed 36.5 gr. Win 296 over 2000 fps. The sight is down but I kept this one from Marty, he is the one responsible for developing this cartridge. He is showing 31.5 at 1800 fps.
    I don't have a chronograph so I don't know the exact speed.

Barnes will be sharing their load data as well but here are the loads I
    would pick
    Barnes 300 gr.
    Loaded to 2.255 overall length
    16" barrel,
Lil Gun 31.0 gr for 1800 fps
    Win 296 31.5 gr for 1800 fps
    H110 31.5 gr for 1780 fps
    RE7 36.0 gr (compressed) for 1750 fps

I'm going to cast also. I'm in a group buy from castbullets. Four cavity 350 gr gas check design. should be here any day. The best part is I get to work up another load and shoot more.

Are you primarily reloading to reduce cost, because of limited availability of factory ammo or some other reason? A friend is building his own 458 SOCOM and this information will be helpful to him.

Bullet drop, don't know, I was shooting at 6" targets aiming at the top of the target with the point of the lower post where the thin cross hairs start up it is then 3" low at 220 yrds and 1-1/2" high at 100 yrds. I would guess 10" to 12"

As far as reloading it is much cheaper and I can work up a load that shoots the best out of the gun. The Corbons shot good but my hand loads are better. If your friend decides to reload have him contact me I can help him out with some information. The 458socom website has been down for a while but I still have some information from there.
