Looking into getting another 1911, but in 9mm. I know the 1911 was designed for the .45 so how does it do with a 9mm cartridge? Any design, reliability or durability problems?

    Thanks for any help.

I sold a few of them and the customers never complained. There has been .22 caliber slide and barrel conversions for many years that work fine. I cannot see why a 1911 pattern pistol that was factory designed for the 9mm would not work ok.

In my opinion, the 9mm version is a great way for a non reloader to enjoy the 1911 style firearm while saving a lot on the ammo.

There is ONE 1911 that was designed to be a 9mm--the Springfield EMP. I wish they'd make it in a size other than 3", because it really runs great. The shortened action is exactly what a 9mm 1911 needs to run well.

Other than that, I would recommend against buying a 9mm 1911 unless you handload. The ammo needs to use round bullets and be loaded at the longer side of the SAAMI spec for 9mm in order to run.

Have you shot many of the others, I have heard really good things about the STI and can say for sure that my Guardian shoots about anything that I have put down the pipe, including hollowpoints.

I just picked up a Para LTC in 9mm. I have only had a chance to put about 50 rounds of Federal ammo from wally world through it and it all ran flawless.

I have a Rock Island 22TCM with 9MM barrel and it's becoming my favorite range pistol.

I'd love to get a Colt Government 9mm or Browning Hi Power.

No 9mms but I have 38 Supers and they all work well. A 1911 with 10rds of 38 Super is a great defense pistol IMO. ;)

I shoot an STI Trojan and have shooting buddies with Les Baer & Springfield and Dan Wesson, all 9mm 1911's.
None of us are willing to sell :).
The Dan Wesson folks had some initial teething issues and the Les Baer owner & myself had to experiment with a couple different brands of 10 round mags (9 rounders all seem to work fine). Things all worked out well in the end though.
