There is ONE 1911 that was designed to be a 9mm--the Springfield EMP. I wish they'd make it in a size other than 3", because it really runs great. The shortened action is exactly what a 9mm 1911 needs to run well.
Other than that, I would recommend against buying a 9mm 1911 unless you handload. The ammo needs to use round bullets and be loaded at the longer side of the SAAMI spec for 9mm in order to run.
