Shooting is about the only time I get to spend with my 18 year old son. Thank God we made the trip to CMP to get his Garand or he probably still wouldn't. Oh, well he might. Seems he falls in love with one of my guns everytime we go:)

This is something I look forward to as my son gets older. He's already got his cricket and we can be found plinking around now, but I look forward to the days when he takes me to the range as well.

I have a 23 year old stepdaughter from a previous marriage with Williamson's Syndrome (mildly mental handicap). My wife and I took her to the range a couple times last summer and she really enjoyed it. I think the shockwave of my bigger rifles spooked her a little, being under a sheet metal roof, but she still put a few mags through my SKS. She loved the 22 though! Listened very intently on how the scope worked, and printed real well on the target at about 100 ft. Very happy fun memory!

Great pics! Looks like a great day. Got a couple more years till my son is ready, can't wait!! :D

Just don't be in too much of a rush. I loved those days back when the kids were little just as much. they would all chase me through the house and tackle me on my bed and beat me up. The dog was right there with them every step and always on their side!

A5guy - That is awesome! Time together doing something is better than what you are actually doing.

And to everyone whos sons and daughters are too young to take to the range yet - That time will come and it will come really quickly and then it's past.

It seems like only yesterday my son was a young Marine getting ready to ship out.

That is great. I had my 10 year old out there today actually. We didn't have a lot of time so we just shot the AR and Glock 17. Dang I should have taken some pictures- but we were just having to much time I guess. Thanks for the post and pics everyone.

Just trying to help, not doing the Church Lady Dance.

If someone gets hurt shooting, it hurts us all.

Besides I need him to be able bodied to pay my Socialist Security.:D

I know. I am just kidding around with ya. You really are right about the classes thing. Most times we do wear them but "most times" really isn't good enough.

The best times for me right now are at the range with my sons. A close second is spending an evening cleaning the weapons and talking about what we need to add to the collection. The more we shoot, the closer we get.

Oh man I hear ya. Just watch out for that "what we need to add thing" it will bite you!

I asked my son what gun we should add and what he would like to try out. He said a Beretta M9. Well that got me researching and eventually at the store looking at one. The next thing you know I hear myself like I am listening to someone else say in slow motion "III"LLL TAAAKKEE ITTT".

I guess I was trying to impress my son with how quick I could show up with one. But I "forgot" to really talk about it with my wife. She took it really well but I was kind of ashamed of myself for the way I went about it (or at least that is the way she said I should feel).

I know just what you mean. It's too easy to let a casual conversation turn into a hunt and purchase. The next thing you know, you have a gun that was cool to shoot a couple of times, but not something that really needed to be added to the collection. Still though, even though I've ended up with a gun that we ended up selling at a loss a bit later, the loss was still worth the time spent and lessons learned together.

Is that really a Colt AR? Looks like an early model. If so, your problems are solved. If you want to pay for that kid's first year of college, then pm me. Go Purdue!

My trips to the range with my son turned into trips to the range with the wife and daughter. She kept hearing how much fun we were having and went with us the next trip. The daughter stayed in the truck and read books, but my wife has actually become very comfortable and proficient with a firearm, AND she likes them (makes the purchases for guns that "I have to have" easier). Great family time - enjoy! :rockwoot:
