We've done that without splitting the dogs and using Aldis chili no beans....it's surprisingly delicious!

Splitting the dogs adds to the effect when done open face on a plate.
We have used some of our home made chili as well.
So many ways to burn and eat a hot dog.

CM, do you ever go to Nick's? I haven't been there in years. Like 20+ years or more. Used to drive by it all the time when my doc was up at Georgetown and Lafayette but now they've moved farther north.

My wife, a die hard Cubs fan, had me request ketchup from the hot dog vendor roaming around in the stands at Wrigley. Wanna guess how that went? He announced it to the crowd.

Yes, I absolutely stood up and threw her under the bus on the spot. Ketchup doesn't belong on a hot dog.

There are some things you just don't do.

    Love the story...... very true.

One of my coworkers wanted ketchup on his dogs at Coney Island. The rest of the table was disgusted.

I made some homemade ketchup from an old recipe - it had a lot of flavor and wasn't sticky and bright red ... it was good.

Today's stuff is just corn syrup, red die, and juice from the floor at a tomato plant.

I'll have mayo or malt vinegar with my fries, thank you very much.

Those morons in Chicago put beef in a casing and try to pass it off as a hot dog and they want to freak out about ketchup? Maybe if they started with pork like God intended they wouldn't have to bury the "dog" under all that slop that they use.

I get the same reaction when I eat Maraschino cherries with my steak.

You mean like they're in your Manhattan cocktail, right?

    Please, please, please agree...

I have been known to take some good red wine with the right steak and the flavors combine and are amazing. Just not real sure about the cherry's.
Just after college my friends and I we braving the life of bachelorhood and honing our culinary skills. So, we got some steaks and experimented with marinades.

    One guy tried grenadine.

Yes, the steak was an unnatural red, but the next day...
"Guys, don't use grenadine with meat. It turned my toilet bowl red."

    One up you here.

Split the dogs and prep for the griddle.

Butter the buns and toast them while you fry up the dogs.

A can of Road house chili heated and seasoned.

Dice up a proper amount of onions....Lots.

Shred up some good cheese to your taste. Cheddar works for me.

Put the buns (2 of them) down open face on the plate.

Put the fried to perfection dogs on the buns. Some decent yellow or deli mustard is next.

    Cover with the chili.

Apply the onions and cheese to your liking.

Put on a bib and knife/fork. Have at it.

What time you want us over?
