Do you really think they "throw away" the 4473 info after you fill it out?

They absolutely do not.

but also has the make, model, caliber and SERIAL NUMBERS of the handguns.

What's the big deal difference? The 4473 lists all that info, and can be sent/picked up/copied/faxed/etc. at a moment's notice.
I don't get why this is supposed to be such an earth-shattering revelation?
