PLEASE SEE REVISIONS BELOW REGARDING START TIME & RIFLE ROUND COUNT AND AMMO RESTRICTION:

EVENT: DP205c – Low Light Handgun & Rifle Skills
    DATE: 23 February 2013
LOCATION: Riley Conservation Club – Terre Haute, IN
TIME: [STRIKE]17:00[/STRIKE] 18:00 approx. start time; class will last about 4 hours
INSTRUCTOR: Joseph Viray, assisted by ACT staff
    TUITION: $75 prepaid
PREREQUISITES: DP101 & DR201 (or equivalents); instructor approval REQUIRED
    DESCRIPTION:

DP205c “Low Light Handgun & Rifle Skills” will focus on defensive handgun & rifle techniques applied to low light or total darkness situations. The class entails the use of modern, high intensity flashlights and their applications to defensive use in conjunction with handguns and rifles. Topics will include acquisition of information, use of handheld flashlights both with and without firearms, use of weapon-mounted flashlights, use of supplemental sighting devices (e.g. lasers), use of tritium night sights, etc.

The handgun portion will be similar to the drills conducted during our DP205b course. The rifle section will also include shooting at steel targets at minimum safe distance to as far as your light will allow you to see well enough to get hits. By necessity, all close range rifle targets will be paper.

This class is not appropriate for inexperienced defensive shooters. You don't have to have completed classes with us, but I reserve the right to final approval on all students. If I don't know you and you wish to participate, please contact me via email (not PM): joseph@adaptiveconsultingandtraining.com

** PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CLASS WILL INCLUDE LIVE FIRE DRILLS. **

    GEAR LIST & RECOMMENDATIONS:
    • Reliable, high-intensity handheld light; lanyard recommended
    • Back-up light (optional)
    • Spare batteries (recommended)
    • Spare lamps (if your light uses incandescent lamps)
    • A couple of feet of 550 cord to make a lanyard (optional)
    • Low intensity "task light" for navigation and checking targets (optional)
    • Weapon-mounted light (optional)
    • Inert replica of your pistol if you have one (e.g "Blue Gun" or similar that fits your holster; optional)
    • Concealment garment
    • Pistol, caliber consistent with defensive needs
    • 100[STRIKE]-250 [/STRIKE]rounds of ammunition (how much you need depends on how much you choose to fire)
    • 5 or more magazines or speed loaders. More is better to avoid delays on the line.
    • Magazine or speed loader carriers
    • Strong side belt holster (IWB holsters are fine) that covers the trigger guard and allows one handed holstering
    • Pistol belt
    • Rifle or carbine, repeating, caliber consistent with defensive needs
    • [STRIKE]100-250 [/STRIKE]250-500 rounds of ammunition (how much you need depends on how much you choose to fire). NO ARMOR PIERCING AMMUNTION IS ALLOWED.
    • 3 or more magazines (more if your magazines hold fewer than 20 rounds)
    • A way to carry spare magazines on your person
    • Sling or carry strap
    • Weapon-mounted light (for rifle)
    • Eye and ear protection. Electronic muffs or vented earplugs suggested for allowing easier hearing of range commands.
    • Billed cap
    • Please dress appropriately for outdoor activities according to the weather and allow for moderate physical activity.
    • Remember that you may be shooting while wearing gloves. Wear the gloves you normally wear during cold weather.
    • You should bring snacks and fluids of your choice. Snack bars or power bars are great to keep in your shooting bag. Water or a combination of water and sport drinks work best. ACT will provide bottled water.

Mike, don't let gear stop you (again). We can loan you whatever you need.

Here is something I posted in the schedule topic that is pertinent to this discussion:

I anticipate that this event will be a little less "instruction" and more about drills and fine tuning and just getting the opportunity to do some shooting at night. We'll do some close work with the rifles on paper, but I also plan to shoot at some steel at longer distances, probably starting at around 75-100 yards and backing up to as far as people can hit with their equipment (240 is the maximum range). Once everyone verifies that they can hit at the closest range, we'll put up some barrels and do some drills that incorporate movement and use of cover to engage the steel from multiple positions. The longer distances I anticipate will more about marksmanship and seeing what your limits are with your gear.

If the class wants to spend more time with the long guns and less time with the pistolas, I'm agreeable to that too.

Guys have fun. I've got to miss this one, again. It's the same night as our booster bash for the high school and I have to be there.

    I was just thinking...
If anyone is holding off on coming due to a lack of magazines and no way to get them, I have loaners in a variety of flavors. Just let me know what you need and I'll bring them. I won't fill them up, though.

Rhino and Obiwan- Application is coming. For some reason, we can't keep a printer operational for more than two weeks in this house.

Okay . . . based on the number of people attending and their respective skill levels, I've decided to shift this event more toward carbine/rifle rather than a 50-50 split as I had originally planned. So you may wish to bring more ammo for your long gun.

Also, make sure you are zeroed the way you want it and that you know your holdovers/unders. We may be shooting out to 240 yards if the weapon lights will let us see that far.

We'll probably be doing some prone and other position shooting, so if you need knee pads or a mat, you should bring those as well.

Boy, I'd like to take this class. Could one of you call my wife and say there's some kind of emergency in Terre Haute that requires my presence?

We could do that, but then we'd all have to go into witness protection after the class was over.

HTFU and tell her you're coming!
