The responding sheriff's deputies acted swiftly and bravely. I commend them for it. But, what does this say about our military bases when they (our military) cannot respond to an active shooter? A military base, our ARMED forces. There are millions and possibly billions of dollars of aircraft and other equipment on that base. Are we not protecting it and the personal manning it? I just dont get it.

USAF would've responded with USAF Security Forces (AKA Air Force Cops) and a lot of them. Most with M4s, a few with SAWs.

And that should be the response to any issue like this. An armed, trained group ready to take care of business. What if, instead of one little dude with a handgun ( that he's probably never fired before) it is a team of trained Iranians, or Hezbollah etc. I have a bad feeling that PNAS would be a smoking ruin. How many more bases are left virtually undefended like this?

Shooter hosted a dinner party last week where he showed mass shooting videos. One of the guests was the guy taking video of this shooting.
    Now we have this:
The official said 10 Saudi students were being held on the base Saturday while several others were unaccounted for.

Spouting crap straight outta bin-Laden, getting ready by watching mass shooting videos. The guy videoing was outside, no service inside the building? Where did the video get uploaded?

10 Saudi students being held. Bring in an FBI agent of Saudi descent in a Saudi military uniform talking about returning them to SA and the dime will be dropped quick.

Off-base contacts. You can bet this was in the works for a while.

What are we doing with the rest of these detained Saudi's?

What will we do with those who attended the dinner party? Are they not accomplices, along with the video recording crew?

News said he legally purchased the handgun at a gun store by using a "loophole" in the law that allows a foreigner to buy if they hold a hunting license.
Huh, I did not know that. I'm not sure I support protecting foreigners' right to hunt to that extent. Maybe they should just borrow a friend's gun for the hunt.

We lost three very young people who were just starting out in life and their lives in the military. :patriot:

Also, NORTHCOM ordered the barn door to be shut occasionally after the horse got out.

[h=1]Navy IDs 3 victims of NAS Pensacola shooting; military calls for increased security checks
[/h]U.S. Northern Command (Northcom) has called for increased random security checks at all sites across Northern Command following the deadly shootings at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii and Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola in Florida.

The Navy on Saturday identified the three victims of the NAS Pensacola shooting as Ensign Joshua Kaleb Watson, 23, of Coffee, Ala.; Airman Mohammed Sameh Haitham, 19, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Airman Apprentice Cameron Scott Walters, 21, of Richmond Hill, Ga.

Well, it appears at least the Pearl shooter is gonna provide some anti gun fodder! You don’t like red flag laws, this is what you get when you don’t have red flag laws!

While I will always defer to Act on submarine issues, I think it's safe to say problems don't get better when in a steel tube under water.

I don't remember reading anywhere, how long had the boat been in dry dock?

Are they seriously going with this?

Of the 10 Saudi trainees reportedly detained, three of them are the ones from the dinner party who claimed they were only filming the shooting because they happened to be there at the time and wanted to capture the moment, the U.S. official told the New York Times.

In the days since the attack, a U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity after being briefed by federal authorities told the Associated Press that a total of 10 Saudi students were being held on the base as of Saturday while several others were unaccounted for.

While officials have not publicly disclosed how many missing servicemen are out there, U.S. Northern Command (Northcom) has called for increased random security checks at all sites as authorities investigating the attack are still working to determine whether it was an act of terrorism,

"Given the recent attacks at two military installations, the Commander, U.S. Northern Command has directed all DoD [Defense Department] installations, facilities and units within the U.S. Northern Command area of responsibility to immediately assess force protection measures and implement increased random security measures appropriate for their facilities,” Lt. Cmdr. Michael Hatfield told Fox News on Saturday.

"The advisory also told leaders to remind their workforce to remain alert and if they see something, to say something by immediately reporting to appropriate authorities any suspicious activity they may observe," Hatfield continued.

On Saturday, a U.S. official told the Associated Press that Alshamrani hosted a dinner party earlier in the week where he and three others watched videos of mass shootings.

The official who spoke Saturday said one of the three students who attended the dinner party hosted by the attacker recorded video outside the classroom building while the shooting was taking place on Friday. Two other Saudi students watched from a car, the official said.

In the weeks leading up to the shooting, Alshamrani and the same three other Saudi military trainees made a visit to New York City where they went to several museums and Rockefeller Center, a person briefed on the investigation told the New York Times.

Federal investigators are now focused on whether the trip was an extended tourist trip during the Thanksgiving holiday week or if the group of Saudi trainees had other motives or were meeting with anyone else in New York, according to The Times. Of the 10 Saudi trainees reportedly detained, three of them are the ones from the dinner party who claimed they were only filming the shooting because they happened to be there at the time and wanted to capture the moment, the U.S. official told the New York Times.

They just had a press release. The FBI lady in charge did not inspire confidence that we are getting all the information, with me anyway.

They insisted that the threat is over and they have 100% accountability of all the Saudi military on that base.

They are "treating it as" terrorism, but still won't readily call it that.

The shooter used a G45, bought legally. Didn't say how it was legal for a foreign national to buy a gun here. :dunno:

What is the motive for not calling this terrorism what it is?

Iran. Sad that not wanting to upset the Saudis makes us bend into pretzels to not call terrorism, terrorism. The president hasn't even addressed this in the way he would've, if it had been anyplace else, with people affiliated with different groups.

It's legal and it has been for years.
It's why when you fill up a form 4473 to purchase a firearm they ask for your country of citizenship, and not just if you're a US citizen or not.

Permanent residents can buy a gun just like a US citizen can, and get a licence to carry.
Some people on a non-immigrant visa can also buy firearms and ammunition if they have a hunting licence.
Depending on how long they stay in the country some non-US-citizens can qualify as a state resident.
Usually people with a long-stay visa over 90 days like students, and in that case probably foreign military members.
