Every firearm I have purchased new has come with a chamber flag. Since then, I have accumulate a score or more at no charge.

If you can't afford a chamber flag, you can't afford to shoot.

That is certainly handy if you are on a square range with range flags in your range bag.

Where he is going . . . there will be lots of AKs but no range flags.:D

Failed attempt at unloading, then pulled the trigger while gun not pointed in a safe direction

...another senseless and easily prevented tragedy.

Sounds like the shooter thought the gun was unloaded and therefore didn’t think a safe direction mattered all that much...

Safe direction always would have prevented this and so many other senseless tragedies. Not all, mind you, but enough to make a huge difference.

Stop teaching people to pretend their guns are always loaded and make keeping them pointed in a safe direction always paramount.

Betcha he thought it was a safe direction and betcha he will say he thought it was unloaded.

Have seen it over and over, people think the direction is safe because no one is standing in front of the muzzle. "Safe direction" is not safe because it does not teach about backstops.
