Here is a link with more detail on the ruling.

Appeals court overturns verdict in Ventura defamation case - StarTribune.com

    Summary: the appeals court ruled:

3-0 that the $1.35M Unjust Enrichment was not allowed under Minnesota law and threw it out. Done. End of story.

2-1 to overturn and send the $500k defamation verdict back for retrial finding that Kyle's estate was denied a fair trial when the judge allowed the defense attorney to question witnesses about, and in closing arguments, bring Kyle's insurance coverage into the trial. Now it's up to Ventura if he wants to pursue a new trial.

Editted to add: I had read some of the news coverage of the trial and had labored to understand how the jury had reached it's verdict. There were plenty of witnesses who corroborated various elements of Kyle's version. And, I seemed to recall, but couldn't find, that Ventura initially said he wasn't even at the bar. Anywho, now it all makes sense... Minnesota jury was convinced insurance was going to pay for it all, so...

With the $1.35 million and the claim its based upon gone for good and a dicey defamation claim, I predict a settlement for much, much less than the original $500,000 defamation verdict...unless Ventura is just a total pr......well, we may see a new trial yet.

I dunno... I don't think Taya will want to give Ventura a dime, and I don't think Ventura is dumb enough to expect a unanimous decision (it was 10-2 last time with the jury thinking it was all insurance money). Smart play, though maybe more costly than a few $100k settlement, would be to let him try again... and refuse a split verdict, should one arise. Onus is upon him to prevail in court.

Alas, the liberaltarians always fight for their man, Ventura. He is pretty much all they have as far as a notable victory. Thus, even a personal injury type lawsuit is a victory for them, and we know that victories for them are seldom.

The Navy has corrected his medal count following the investigation.
"After thoroughly reviewing all available records, the Navy determined an error was made in the issuance of Chief Petty Officer Chris Kyle's form DD214," which is the standard report filed upon separation from military service, Navy spokeswoman Lt. Jackie Pau told CNN.

Lol. I figured if anybody would give me grief over this it would be you. Where ya been bro, I've noticed your absence?

You know I have to bust your chops a bit. I've always considered this angle much ado about nothing.

Work has been pretty intense. 60+ hour weeks since may, and my current client blocks INGO on their guest wireless, to boot.

No, can't be, simply not possible. I remember when some here open called another member a liar and ran him off based on his DD214 they had supposedly accessed. Now you tell me that errors are so common on them that the navy even screwed up the DD214 of one of its most famous SEALs?

Oh damn, I had forgotten all about that. Kinda gives some perspective. I mean if they're messing up the record of a well known soldier with some pretty legit awards, it would imply that this kind of stuff happen much more frequently to "lesser knowns."

Does anyone check their official transcripts(school records, college records, dd214 etc) for errors? And if you found any, what did you do about it?
