I know a couple guys way into FAL history and building. Geek out on every little part.

Not worried if I build one that it ends up being leas than 100 % correct per some model.

I should just buy a complete DSA 18 inch rifle. But having a lower ready to go is a 500 savings.

The horizontal locking levers, read where those may have been used on paras.

I have no idea who else used em.

Dunno if the lower tab would make for easier manipulation.

Mine has vertical but am not against trying a horizontal.

My lonely lower currently is wearing new Israeli wood.
Blonde....might get one of those Ironwood walnut jobbies. But thatd add another 160 bucks.

The blonde beech (or whatever it is) wont take stain. Hell Im not against painting it black, or green.

Non hump, wood....ironwood designs is only place Ive found. And at 160 its still not finished.

For me it's all about function, though the LOOKS of the FAL is what initially captured my attention/imagination.

Dats one EVIL LOOKIN' black rifle. :D

And yeah, if you have a complete lower in excellent condition, use it.

I have an old Jeep that im debating on putting a lift, so new tires n wheels would be needed after. Nothing fancy but get it squared away before deer season.

Cost about what completing my FAL would.

Im being too much of a tight azz and either cost more than now, whenever a decision is made.

Ive missed out on cool stuff before, waiting too long. Merkel Helix in .308 or .243.

Did find a place w Steyr CLII SX shorter model in .308.

Cost more than the projects I have stifled.

I wouldn't paint a wood stock. I'd try sanding with a fine grit, followed by a SEALER. Then maybe use a GEL STAIN. < see link

There's always a workaround, and you could even go with a non-traditional wood color. Maybe a transparent OD Green that lets the wood grain show through...
