I believe it makes sense to buy a dedicated 9mm lower if you aren't going to create an SBR. I have a Rock River lower with a 10.5" 9mm upper on it and if I choose to I could pull the mag block and use the 12.5" 5.56 upper that is currently running on another lower as a pistol until I put the paperwork in and get it registered.

With decent mag blocks costing so much, does it make more sense to buy a dedicated 9mm lower? How do those work reliability wise?

What he said. If you sbr a 9mm lower that's the only use for it. Personally, I have 3 AR sbr lowers, so the next one will probably be a 9mm lower. For a guy that doesn't want but one, a mag block is the way to go.

Thx guys for the input. I think for now I'll put that project on the back burner. Sounds like I should save my money and get a dedicated lower

    For others:

    Dedicated lowers are 1-trick ponies.

They'll only ever be able of firing the 1 projectile they're made for.

A standard lower will, in short order, also be able to fire several other things.

And if you SBR a standard lower, you'll be able to have "multiple" SBRs in multiple calibers.

Far be it from me to tell someone else what to do, but having the POTENTIAL to change things up, even if I never invest in other uppers, swayed me away from a dedicated 9mm lower.
