Exactly what demographic do you suppose they're trying to appeal to? The demo of chicks into action movies is pretty thin at best, so you'll have most women rushing out not to watch it, and most likely flush the franchise for most men as well. People in general not watching it. Not a good business decision, when you have an established money maker, even as expensive as those movies are to make. I'd go even odds it would fail so hard at the box office it would be the last Bond film ever. What's wrong with leaving something alone, anyway?

It's Hollywood. No film, play book, comic, or game is sacred. That's their business. Hollywood has a very long tradition of changing the race/sex of characters, changing locales and culture, and pretty much bastardizing the creators original intent. In the past, it's paid off handsomely in a good number of features, others complete flops; but obviously, it has earned enough that the practices continues.

I haven't seen a Bond movie (theatres, TV, otherwise) since they streeted Pierce Brosnan. Let them do with Fleming's property whatever they want. Let Yaphet Kotto play Bond, though he's said he'd turn down the offer because Bond is white and always should be. Nevermind that Kotto's already played a Bond villian once.

I doubt anyone would offer him the role anyways. Kotto isn't the best looking guy in the world, country, city, or most likely his household. Idiris Elba I could see playing the role. He has the style and demeanor to pull it off.

I don't have a problem with a female Bond. The only way the Bond series as a whole makes any sense is if "James Bond" is a name for a position/role rather than a person. Just like M and Q.

Why couldn't it be a woman for a couple movies? I'd watch that version just as soon as I would watch any other Bond movie (which is whenever DirecTV gives me free movie channels for the weekend).

So why don't they start another agent in the same "universe". She could be 009, or 013, or whatever.

Because it would likely flop. They figure it is better to use a strong brand and muck around with it than attempt to build something new, even if it can ride strong coat tails.

Because then that wouldn't beHollywood forcing their idea of change down your throat. You knuckledraggersneed to accept a female Bond, not another 00 but the actual 007 as aBond.

Nick Fury (Avengers).... Samuel Jackson is the wrong color
Red (Shawshank).... Morgan Freeman is the wrong color
Goku (Dragonball movie).... actor is the wrong color
Ghengis Khan..... John Wayne is the wrong color
Eugene Simonet (Pay it Forward)..... Kevin Spacey is the wrong color
Othello.... Olivier is the wrong color
Magnificent 7.... Remake of 7 Samurai
Akira.... actor cast in role is the wrong color
Yojimbo..... remake of Fist Full of Dollars
    Ran..... Remake of King Lear
Lone Ranger..... Depp, not an Indian
The Wiz (awesome btw) .... remake of Wizard of Oz
Equalizer..... Washington is the wrong color
Last Temptation of Christ?... Willem Dafoe a fair skinned, blue eyed, wavy haired Jesus? C'mon

Who cares? If you don't like it, don't watch.... or start your own studio and make your own movies.

Yes, and Apocalypse Now was a "remake" of Heart of Darkness. Ok, so you have some "remakes" that were released across cultural lines, largely with little awareness of the original in the cultures they were "remade" for. Then you have some questionable casting decisions. How many of these were recasts of successful, actually iconic characters, that subsequently succeeded as those iconic characters.

    .
The Tomb raider character was along that line, nothing wrong with female secret agents, just don't remake James Bond, who will always be Sean Connery.

That wasn't a feature movie before movie before Apocalypse Now, so it can't qualify as a remake.

And most of the movie Kutnupe list are pretty bad, as would Jane Bond be.

Anyone ever watch Never Say Never Again? No, because it was a horrible, awful James Bond movie done by Warner Bros. and not MGM. Just like that one, and the original Casino Royale*, you can pretend Jane Bod doesn't really exist.

    * While the two James Bond movies share the same title, I would not dare call it a remake.
