I want ONE backgroundcheck ONE time when you turn 21 or 18 maybe even 16 cause that's when u get your drivers license. But one time is a lot better then every time you purchase a weapon.

So, basically, you want the government to do It's job keeping that "ok" status up to date which it has been demonstrated to be wholly inadequate at doing. Between the Obama era second chance let's not report the kids program and slow or no reporting and HIPPA, it's no wonder these crazies are slipping through the cracks and ruining it for the rest of us.

The left desires the complete abolition of private firearms ownership and the utter supremacy of the state over the individual. Their word is worthless. Compromise or concession to them is worthless. The day after your grand compromise, they will introduce more legislation to take more of your rights away. The answer needs to be "no", always, on everything.

    Kind of a moot point.
The left will not "give" anything.
They're idea of compromise is they take more pieces of the pie until there are none left.
They do NOT give pieces back. Ever.

Yeah but the inch I suggest is actually a inch forward for us just under the disguise of backwards. One original check and "universal" and we win big by both having this "universal" check and now all gun purchases have had there background check. As HKUSP said it would fall on the incompetent gov to keep things up to date but all that has to happen is in order for a convicted person to exit a jail they would have to have the new ID. It's all wins for us.

The Left is screaming for more background checks. I know most of us here disagree with a background check, but since we do it for a LTCH or a Stamp, why not cave into their wish, and offer our conditions to acceptance.

Once you pass a background check, you're deemed 'safe' so therefore there should be no more GFZ and national reciprocity.

So I'll submit to a background check if I can carry on an airplane.

I appreciate your reasoned and logical approach. However, I want to add some information that you may not know about. I have found many gun owners don't know about the piles of gun control that we already have on the books in the last 80 years or so. Very, very rarely have we given gun rights away and received ANYTHING in return.

In 1934 people said "We pass this, and then we're done." Then we got stuck with the National Firearms Act. But the anti-gun folk were NOT done.

In 1938 people said "We pass this, and then we're done." Then we got stuck with the Federal Firearms Act. But the anti-gun folk were NOT done.

In 1968 people said "We pass this, and then we're done." Then we got stuck with the Gun Control Act. But the anti-gun folk were NOT done.

In 1986 people said "We pass this, and then we're done." Then we got stuck with the Firearms Owners Protection Act (protection by banning stuff???). But the anti-gun folk were NOT done.

In 1993 people said "We pass this, and then we're done." Then we got stuck with the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act. But the anti-gun folk were NOT done.

In 1994 people said "We pass this, and then we're done." Then we got stuck with the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act (AKA assault weapons ban). Thankfully that was only in force from 1994-2004. But the anti-gun folk were NOT done.

In 2019 people said "We pass this, and then we're done." Then we got stuck with the Bump Stock Ban. A ban that was not voted on by congress or in any legislation, but arbitrarily "written" into law by an unelected and unaccountable bureaucrat, while offering no grandfathering option breaking the ex-post-facto laws.
But the anti-gun folk were NOT done.

Now we have a flurry of legislation in both our state governments as well as the federal government trying to take more our rights away yet again.

As you can see above, we have tried this approach 7 times, and none of them worked. The only reason the 1994 ban is gone is because of the "sunset" or expiration date in the law. If it were not for that, it would still be on the books today, and the gun control folk would still be asking for more.

After losing a BIG chunk of our rights and trying this approach 7 different times, we as firearm owners have had enough. The anti-gun crowd has proven that they will never, never, never be satiated. They hunger, thirst and dream of gun control. And although they might be a minority of the population, the 2/3 of americans in the middle are apathetic enough they will not spend time, money, resources or clout to defend something that they themselves do not care about.

We have tried 7 times to compromise and it only came to us losing more rights while the other side lost nothing. The other side has worn that card out. There is no compromise that will ever be enough.

That is why many gun owners, including myself, believe that the time for compromise is over. It is time to draw a line. And any politician who crosses that line will have a very, very hard time come the next election cycle. We will do everything we can to get pro gun people in office and these current anti-gun politicians voted out!

There is already a mature and pervasive system for tracking traffic citations via driver's license. What makes you think the next step wouldn't require presentation of that drivers license/permit to purchase and that the system couldn't be used for de facto registration?

The same people who think presentation of a driver's license is too much to ask in order to vote will be only too happy to require it for gun sales, because the former supports their desires and inconveniencing and delaying the latter also supports their desires

    This guy gets it ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

We have already compromised away our freedom. Why would I want to compromise away more again? Let's work to REPEAL the above, not add to the list.

With all of the restrictions over the many years you have to ask yourself what you're getting for it. Are the people safer now than they were before, from the crimes that the laws were passed to control? The long and short of gun control over the years is that there isn't much if any security gain for ordinary citizens.

The thing the anti gun crowd does very well is play on emotions after a tragic event. You shouldn’t base decisions on raw emotion, we know that and so do they, but they push it, and the soccer moms/dads/suburbanite moderates buy into it. We HAVE TO DO SOMETHING! We are always playing defense, maybe we should do some offense. I remember in school they said the American Revolution was roughly split one third for, one third against, and one third didn’t give a sh##. That is about where we are now. We need to win that one third.
