I've shot the Ruger Precison Rifle in 6.5 Creedmore on two occasions and was very impressed.
The rifle's owner and I each shot three, three round groups and we averaged 0.6 MOA (shooting 200 yards) using Winchester factory ammo. Strong performer for a modest price point.

My Savage bmag shoots sub moa for next to nothing. It plays at 200 yards on a calm day as well as my Savage 10 stealth ba. It cost less by 800 bucks and 17wsm is cheap and readily available.

I second a vote for the Mossberg in 223 tho. It's a hell of a deal. Chambered in 5.56 but they really like 223.

Ruger American, Savage Axis, or Remington 770 for inexpensive US-made.
Savage 110, Remington 700, or Ruger M77 for a bit more coin, but better looks and quality for US-made.
    I'm loving my circa 1989 M77.

The quality on the mossberg rifles isnt what it should be. I had one and its bore was not concentric to the the barrel. Accuracy wasnt what I expected even for a cheap rifle. The ruger american is a great rifle for the money. Accurate too from what I've seen. Nice trigger.

I have reviewed both the Ruger American ranch in 5.56 and the Savage Hog Hunter in 223 for my channel and they are both amazing in accuracy and performance for no more than they cost. I would only give the edge to the Savage due to getting a little thicker barrel and I prefer the Accutrigger over Ruger's adjustable trigger. In my testing the Accutrigger broke a little lighter and crisper, but the Ruger trigger was not bad at all. The best thing IMO the Ruger Ranch has going for it is how light and compact it is, with a 16" barrel its like toting around a bolt action 16" AR by how light it is. Its still one of my favorite bolt guns...

I will say the accuracy of the Ruger ranch was very surprising, I had no problem at all holding MOA to Sub-MOA groups with it at 100 & 200yrds.

Another vote for the ruger american predator. 18 inch heavier profile barrel but still light weight. With a vortex diamonback 4-12x40, rings, sling, and brake (yep...its threaded!) its still under 8lbs.

It's easily sub moa outta the box with decent ammo.

There are ways to get the trigger into the 2lb range also...with a drop in timney or cutting the factory spring.

I am really impressed with the Remington 783 I bought this past year in .243. With a rebate and on sale, I paid $240 with a cheap scope included. It shoots less than an inch at 100 yds.

Another vote for the 783. I got one in .308 and really like it. Didn't get QUITE as good a deal as pgreene78, but pretty close.

Another vote for the Remington 783. Got mine for $247 out the door, .243 as well, with the same results as pgreene78 with 95 gr. Fusion's

I have a Savage Axis II XP and the Mossberg MVP mentioned a few times above (mine is the Predator version). The Savage is great and I'd buy another for sure. I recommend the Axis II if you go this route due to the Accutrigger that it has, very nice for a stock trigger.

The MVP I have has had none of the issues with feeding or concentric bore also mentioned above. In fact, it is the most accurate .223 I own. I can shoot 1/2 MOA with the right load in it.

Let us know what you end up with!

savage axis, most savage centerfires are scary accurate, accu trigger, floating bolt, ability to adjust head spacing, good barrels. Ruger skimps to much on barrels, among other things.

Found my deal today. Local gun shop put Remington 700 blow out deal on facebook today so I called and asked how much. $299 and they had 3 of them. Found a Nikon 4x12x40 scope used on arms list. The guy met me at my work and I got it for $120. By the time I got to the gun shop they only had one left. New rifle, scope mount base, rings and dust covers for a grand total of $486.28. Now to get it to the range to see how I did. Thanks again for all the advice. IMG_0628.jpg IMG_0628.jpg

What twist does Remington use on those? If it won't shoot heavier SMKs, it's not nearly as useful..
