    I have never understood these. How do you get them going in a horizontal direction? And how do you get them to go back up? Or even stay on course for that matter? I see them everyday working by the roads. -Jason

    It has an angled head on the front end. If it is spinning, it goes straight. If it's not spinning it will go the direction the angled head is pointing. The operator has a clock face, looking gage so he can tell the orientation of the angled head. Want it to go down, orient the head, then push. There is a guy following the head with a locator, so he can tell where it's at and how deep it is.


    Pretty much. They also use high pressure water through a jet on the head, it keeps the sonar (son) cool and helps loosen the dirt in front of the bill
    The bill on a 24x40 is 5" so you can pull 2" pipe back in that hole. If you're pulling something bigger, they take the head off and put a reamer on to cut whatever size hole you need.

    My neighbor had an old 580B, that I spent a lot of time working, and working on. If you have much property, a 580 should be mandatory.

    i have done a lot on my C model....i call him my 8 ton buddy...you can come out any time and run it....
