... it would be a fool who didn't acknowledge the violence that is associated with Indy downtown during IBE. It doesn't really matter if it's directly related to IBE events or attendees. IBE is the draw for the people responsible for the violence. And IBE will be associated with that violence until the violence stops....or IBE does.

I certainly would not disagree with this. You must decide what is and what is not a safe environment for your family.

Having events that are centered around a particular ethnicity isn't the real problem, at least as long as the 'marketing' isn't designed to alienate others (oktoberfest, Irishfest?). I doubt IBE's marketing is made to do that either, it's a matter of what some people make of it.
As for eliminating racism, I think people forget the amount of change that has happened. I'm 54 and remember when parts of this country were like the OLD apartied s. africa and that country doesn't exist anymore either. INSTITUTIONAL racism is over, stupidity isn't and will persist as long as there are people. Racism is a type of bigotry and who is a racist is about how some people don't think, not what they look like.
We should be able to be a "multi-cultural" society on some level. If we can't then we havent gotten past intolerance.

Stupidity is pretty common now days. It used to be that stupidity was self extinguishing but now we have multiple government programs to keep the flame burning. No single race has a lock on stupidity. Every race and ethnicity has it's stellar citizens as well as its completely moronic ones. It's a shame that IBE tends to be co-opted by the degenerates but our media and government are partly to blame. As I said, every race has it's morons and degenerates. Our media and government are so intent on avoiding the appearance of racism that they tolerate and rationalize the behavior of the morons and degenerates that exist in the African American community more so than is most other ethnic or racial communities. It's ironic in that it is a form of racism in itself in that it assumes the African American community can do no better. Moronic behavior should not be tolerated in any community. Maybe black expo can teach a true history lesson that not even 10% of blacks in America are descended from slaves. So since the blacks in America are descended from so many countries around the globe I fail to see the logic for the African symbolism?
italian fest is for people from the country Italy which includes blacks. Polish fest is for those descended from the country Poland which includes blacks. Irish fest , Ireland and so on.

i think black expo is an event which attempts to rewrite factual history based on what some in a group feel they want their history to be instead of embracing the reality of what it is and that history is that the vast majority of their ancestors were free blacks from around the globe.
culture can't be created or its not culture anymore.
