    I would assume it's standard that the police will ask who you are when you call them.

    Some years back, I was out running and found a bunch of keys on a ring about a block from the police station.
    I was going by the police station anyway, so i walked in and told the person at the counter that I found these keys in the middle of the road on Front Street a block over.

    The person ask me who I was and I simply responded "a concerned citizen", and left.
    Nobody came after me to try to get me to tell them who I was.
