    Right, thanks for the clarification, Carmel. "Black powder gun" is vague. "Black powder guns" can use fixed cartridges (which is what I was visualizing).

    Let's say "muzzle loaders that use black powder" do not need the LTCH.

    So how about a muzzleloader that uses Pyrodex? :):

    Hasn't someone built muzzleloaders for smokeless powder?

    Smokeless powder muzzleloaders (Savage) are 4473 exempt AFAIK. If the barrel can be replaced and shoot a fixed cartridge it is not 4473 exempt (i.e. T/C, Rossi, NEF/H&R).
