Well being that my Ar has turned in to a tree trunk with optics ,around 8 lbs with Rail ,FSB ,MBUS and red dot. I think its time to go back the other way . I want to build something as lite and simple as possible. This is why I would like some feed back on the carbon uppers .
    1. Anybody got one ?
    2. How do the hold up ?
    3. Any bolt wear problems ?
    4. Do they hold up to impact ?
    5. Barrel nut threads, good ,bad , strip easy ?
    6. charging handle latch area, does it hold up ?
    7. And so on ,I think I've painted a good enough picture for everyone to see what I'm looking for .
    8. Thanks
Im just doing some research ,havent made my mind up 100% about my next build ! Only looking for Facts not opinion ,so If all you have is smartazz remarks .Save them for some where else ! Thanks to those who have posted positive input on hereAnd yes opinion matters when based upon fact !

the weight savings of the UPPER of all things, is going to be minuscule.

Barrel, stock, FSB, and optics are the heavy items on the gun.

Upper also acts as a heat sink for the barrel extension and barrel. Carbon Fiber upper does not make a very good heat sink.

Well so far most of the info i've found is 50/50 for good and bad ,but most of it is at least two years old . Some as far back as 05

I know I'm not saving that much weight ,but ever little bit add's up.

My biggest turn off at this point ,from what info I can find is that the BCG needs a special coating to reduce wear on the upper !

IMHO carbon fiber is not a great material for an upper. Lower maybe but not an upper. I don't believe the weight savings is worth the chance of it cracking from the stresses put on it.

So let me get this straight.

There are a few schools of thought when it comes to AR15s.

1: Buy the best, most durable, and highest quality gun you can get your hands on.
2: Buy the cheapest gun you can, and hope for the best.

This would seem to be a third catagory, most properly titled...

    Knowingly building a questionable gun.

    Does not compute.

I built this super-lightweight 16" carbine using a stripped Carbon-15 Upper and a Cav Arms Lower. The result is 5 lb. 1 oz. (without magazine). It handles and shoots great.

The C-15 Upper assembled exactly like an aluminum one (except there is no forward assist or ejection port cover).

Honestly, why wouldnt you just remove the heavy crap from your AR? Better yet, remove the heavy handguard, sell it and buy a lightwieght Daniel Defense. How about spending money on quality lightweight accessories. I am not a fan of lightweight barrels.
