    So let me get this straight.

    There are a few schools of thought when it comes to AR15s.

    1: Buy the best, most durable, and highest quality gun you can get your hands on.
    2: Buy the cheapest gun you can, and hope for the best.

    This would seem to be a third catagory, most properly titled...

    Knowingly building a questionable gun.

    Does not compute.
    If everyone played follow the leader all the time .We would still be throwing rocks at each other.
    So far you have shared alot of opinon and no facts .Thanks

    Sounds like your mind is made up. All the best in your project.
    Not 100% ,thanks though . Thought about your heat sink comment .Which made me think gas piston, but that only adds weight .This whole carbon fiber thing may end up in the trash . Who knows

    I built this super-lightweight 16" carbine using a stripped Carbon-15 Upper and a Cav Arms Lower. The result is 5 lb. 1 oz. (without magazine). It handles and shoots great.

    Looks like the one I built for my daughter. CAV15-MkII with a lightweight Del-Ton ML upper. I chopped the stock 1.5 inches to reduce the length of pull.

    The C-15 Upper assembled exactly like an aluminum one (except there is no forward assist or ejection port cover).

    Just built the rifle and put 100 rounds downrange. It is still getting broken in. The groups were 3-4 inches but I was shooting wolf ammo and using a 4moa reddot sight. It also happened to be around 32 degrees when I was shooting. Hope to get out this weekend and properly sight it in.

    My other Del-Ton is a chrome lined, mid-length, heavy barrel and it shoots 1-1.5 inches at 100 yards. It has at least 2000 rounds down the tube and it is very reliable. When the barrel is hot, it never strings the group or changes point of impact. It is mounted on a RRA lower and has been flawless since 2008. Here is a picture;
